Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

I just got a letter from the Ticket office saying that I've been bumped from the Indiana game to this one - I must admit I'm pleasantly surprised. This could potentially be a better game, my brother is flying in from out of town that weekend, and its the alumni game so I'll get to see four script Ohios. Not a bad deal, I must say. Not sure if this has been asked and answered already, but is their QB any relation to Les Horvath?

Here are the pre-season top-25 OT's from CFBNews.com.

Only 1 team has both tackles listed. Check #6 and #17.

Looks like some extra motivation for Barton and Boone, if they needed any.

I'm noticing none of the defensive players are making any top 25 lists. The OSU offense will have to shoot itself in the foot more than once for us not to score over 30. I don't think people are underestimating niu, most of us think it'll be a good game for about a half.

I've noticed that too, though we had a really young 'D' last year, so it's not too surprising. With more experience, someone will probably step up and be noticed for it. I also would be surprised if OSU doesn't score more than 30 points, without turnovers.

Did you not see what happened to NDs slow secondary? And I can guarantee there was more talent and speed in their secondary than NIU's. NIU's defense is going to get lit up like a damn Christmas tree. We know, you know, and we know you know

You really have to keep in mind that despite the lack of speed in ND's secondary, OSU's offense was had already turned the corner and was flat out on fire....

Let's not get carried away here. I don't think it is impossible for tOSU to score 30 in the first half but I don't think it is likely to happen either.
I agree. 30 points would require four TDs and a FG in a half -- five possessions, minimum. No way will that happen in this game. Tressel will not reveal anything in this game for Texas if he doesn't need to, and this game can be won with "Pittman right," "Pittman left," and "Beenie up the middle."

I imagine vintage JT: five or six minute-plus possessions, 12 running plays with a 'safe' pass play every so often to keep the secondary honest, shorten the game, and keep Wolfe off the field. If that's the case, OSU won't even have five possessions in the first half unless the D forces two turnovers.

Man you guys are going to get pounded, as you said no need for tressel to reveal anything to texas, keep in mind who was the starter in the texas game last year, justin zwick who sucked kinda, but of troy wasent suspended, we would have won that game i gurantee it, and we would have beat usc...even penn freakin state, thought troy played that game, and we were probably still upset about the loss....niu will get killed just pound the ball to chris wells and get him some traning in the first game, so he knows how it is, dont use your good plays, but get up by maybe, 2 or 3 touchdowns then put in your reserves!!
