Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

If you don't like the thread then don't read it. It's been going in circles since aout page 30 anyway.

I'm not much into talk as evidenced by my post count. Previously in this thread, I posted that the football people here respect NIU and respect Wolfe. I, along with every other college football fan, am looking forward to the start of the season, which happens to be on September 2nd for my team. And, I'll choose to read and comment on whatever thread that interests me. Out of respect for the mods who oversee this site, I'll leave it at that. Looking forward to the game.

Same thing could be said about the Maryland team we beat. Sometimes things happen. No i am not saying they are nearly as good as you just pointing out facts. Don't freak out.
No it couldn't because Maryland sucks. Don't ever bring up Maryland in this discussion again. They are light years away from ever being what Ohio State is and there is NO correlation between playing a wannabe big time BCS team like them and playing a big time BCS team like us.

The year we beat them they lost 3 games. Northern Illinois, Florida State, and their bowl game.

Oh yeah real sucky.

First, you don't dictate to an established member what to do. Second, the thread has been going in circles since your arrival.
And it was going nowhere before I got here. I wasn't dictating to him what to do, I just don't understand why somebody would want to read a thread that they think is awful.

Just like the Horvath comment, you will jump on any comment that isn't completely bowing down to the greatness of Ohio State. It doesn't matter if the player ot fan is from Northern Illinois, Texas, USC, or Southeast Alaska State University.

First, your wording was as if you were trying to TELL him.

Second, how would he know he thinks the thread is "awful" without reading it? :roll2:

Third, we've stated that it could be used at bulletin board material, which it can. When a MAC team is quoted as feeling like they can come into the 'Shoe and hang with the #1 team there is opportunity to get some players riled up. I wouldn't expect you to know considering your stadium isn't the 'Shoe, you wont be #1, and you dont have the history. Considering you DON'T know what that's like you really should try and cut out trying to tell people who do how how to feel or what is right.

But, hey, in all fairness, they really hung one on that perennial powerhouse, Duke! :slappy:

Uhhh, I think he was referring to the 2003 season where Maryland LOST to Northern Illinois and finished 10-3 winning the Gator Bowl over West Virginia.

I'm so confused...

So, if NIU beat Md in 03, and Md in 03 was pretty good, going 10 - 3 and a bowl and all that... what does it mean that the 04 squad beat NIU, but ended up going 5 - 6 and failing to qualify for a bowl...

It means 2003 was the exception, not the norm. That still doesn't factor in Ohio State being the toughest opponent of them all for NIU......

Again, thanks for the prep for Texas but dont expect a close game.

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Anyone who has any sort of optimism/confidence heading into their challenging matchup is arrogant and providing bulletin material? What do you expect a football player to say? "man, they are way too good for us, we have no chance. Let's just forfeit now..."

I feel we have a better warmup game than Texas, and that's b/c this team will not arrive already knowing they are beaten. I don't think NIU will come close to winning, but they will be a lot more competitive than BG.

Who said "anyone" who has optimisim? We are talking about Northern Illinois here. Also, I expect them to be confident, but that doesn't it cannot be used as BBM. Different strokes for different folks.
