Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

Selective memory - or lack of reading the full thread, you the gentle reader can decide.

What happened against Akron part deux?

Did the Zips just decide NOT to focus on Wolfe, and your head coach, befuddled and bemused give up on the running game?

If you are going to join the fray on page 14 at least scan through to see if we have covered the obvious.
Oh, yes welcome to BP
And Akron had a more veteran defense than OSU will have next season. Garrett Wolfe still had 164 yards of offense in that game. Name me another game where GW had more than 15 carries and didn't gain more than 100 yards (Hint: There are none)!

We gave up on the running game in Akron part 2? Wolfe had 42 carries for 270 yards. Not sure if I am mis-reading your post, or you were just that wrong.

Redux - name me another game where a visiting OOC team fan-base came on strong with words to say .. tOSU has not seen anyone like so-and-so, but then after the game is done said OOC fan-base is telling a much different story, about how surprised they were at how good the Buckeyes really were.

Answer - many of them.

I assure you, a "veteran Akron D" is, at best, the same as a "new" OSU D. Don't kid yourself, guys, OSU's "new" D has pleanty of expierence. Yes, losing 9 of 11 hurts, I won't deny it. But OSU isn't replacing these guys with absolute newbies. And every one of the "replacements" would start in the MAC, and probably dominate.

Of course he didn't play good defense's, we are NIU. That ain't his fault. Do you think you would have shut down Michael Turner also?

Let's have some fun with Pittman and Wolfe common opponents.

Miami:
Pittman- 14 carries, 100 yards, 0 touchdowns
Wolfe- 31 carries, 197 yards, 2 tds
Pittman 7.17ypc
Wolfe 6.36 ypc
Northwestern:
Pittman- 18 carries, 132 yards, 1 td
Wolfe- 34 carries, 245 yards, 3 rds
Pittman 7.3 ypc
Wolfe 7.21 ypc
Michigan:
Pittman- 23 carries, 85 yards, 1 td
Wolfe- 17 carries, 148 yards, 1 td
Pittman 3.70 ypc
Wolfe 8.71 ypc
Totals:
Pittman- 55 carries, 317 yards, 2 tds
Wolfe- 82 carries, 590 yards, 6 tds

YPC:
Pittman- 5.7
Wolfe: 7.1

Mind that Wolfe has a bullseye on his back every game and is our #1, meanwhile Pittman was your #4 option. In common opponetns, Wolfe was better in every single category then Pittman was.
If you break it down this way then you understand that Pittman was better in the two games that we played the same opponents. Yards per carry were higher and the fact that he wasn't the only one that could get into the end zone is a big reason that TD's weren't the same or higher than Wolfe's.

Why do I say that there were only two common opponents? If you think that you guys played the same michigan team as the one that plays in the greatest rivalry of all time, then you're crazy.

Name the players. Josh Betts is 1/4 the player of Garrett Wolfe.

Haha of course take out Pittman's sucky game and Wolfe's best (YPC) wise.

Sorry Wolfe averages almost 2.0 YPC more then Pittman does in common opponents. Break it down anyway you want.

I will take Wolfe over Pittman all day everyday.

As if every other team NIU has played the last two seasons has not tried to concentrate on Garrett Wolfe anyway!

Look how well that has worked, over 3,200 yards in only 20 career games (or 160 ypg. rushing)!
Well, yeah - my church's flag football team could concentrate on Wolfe, but that doesn't mean it's gonna happen. Then again, that's why none of them play for Ohio State. Your point about Wolfe's prior performance is noted, but like we keep saying:

Ohio State >>> All other defenses Wolfe has ever faced.

He has a very stiff challenge ahead of him.
