Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

Some of us have wandered over to the NIU board, but I dont think anyone is outright talking smack (although I was accused of being arrogant for thinking the Bucks would cover the spread:roll2: ) I've tried to be respectful and from what I've seen others there from here have as well.

I remember Cody Picket desperately trying to get something going late in the 4th.

I remember Reggie Williams getting up after catching a pass for a 1st down late in the fouth, doing a little shimmy and signaling first down

Now that i have looked back.. from what i read all i saw was G Force saying our enviorment looked better then michigan and then mostly buckeye nut giving reasons why they are laughable.. i guess because they only have about 22,000 at games..

i dont know if that really even matters.. it came down to nuge hitting the game winner against marshall when we were picked by many to repeat as national champions. I remember cinci in 02 where we very easily could of had our national championship season ruined..

idk.. making fun of fan bases because they can't fill a stadium isn't relevant to the game and just dosent get me off.

If he asked for it, its of course a diffrent story.. and i too have/will give fans shit about stupid and pointless things.

We talked about this about 40-50 pages ago (thereabouts). No way that Wolfe gets yanked, even if it's 45-3, unless he's having a really piss-poor day...if he's approaching 100 yards he'll be left in to try for the 100 just so NIU can say he ran for 100 against the nation's best rush defense over the last four years.
I agree with G Force on this one (and not just because he is an NIU fan). Our coach is very conservative and if the game gets out of hand in favor of either team, Wolfe is going to get pulled. Our #1 goal this year is to win the MAC, not trying to look good getting beat at OSU. This is not saying that we won't try to win this game, but we will not compromise the rest of our year for a moral victory at OSU.

and i called out OUR OWN president.. making the situation apples and oranges IMO(not picking on another team but our own.. and i'd believe very few fans would argue she is not *EDIT*)

Not really "apples and oranges"...both deal with OSU fans showing a degree of class. You rip into OSU fans for hazing opposing fans, yet you publicly defile the president of the school you supposedly love.

I asked this once, and then my attention span expired and I didn't stick around for the answer. Are there actual coaches who care about how their running backs do against specific teams? Is there anyone who says, "If my guy gets 5 more yards, he can claim to be only one of three guys to run for 100+ yards against this team in over a decade?" Maybe I give people too much credit. I would think that a coach wants to get the win. Maybe his goal is to get his back 100+ yards, because it helps him get his win. But if he's down by 5 touchdowns, I don't think that getting his back 100+ yards is going to be on his mind.

Zurp, I gotta give Mili a bit of support here. In this context, a win might mean keeping Wolfe in the national spotlight to help with the recruiting for next year. We are talking a MAC school that doesn't have many players that get this much national attention. He's a possible Heisman candidate and they will do whatever they can to keep him in that running, in my opinion, because it serves not only his interests but their other interests as well.

Beating the #1 team in the nation would do more for a program then Wolfe having a good game against the Buckeyes. I think a win over Ohio State would do more then Wolfe winning the heisman.

Screw it, lets just do both.
