Bran may still turn out to be the Night King (where was he when he warged?)! Hell, the only thing certain is there will (hopefully) be a couple big twists: Tyrion is the Mad King's bastard, there's another dragon, Arya kills Cersei wearing Jaime's face...the theories are as exciting as the show at this point. I'm really rooting against happily ever after and Jon on the throne. (Of course I hoped for the death of at least one major character in the MASH finale. Sheesh, was that a bore.)

All of that happens except Bran being the NK.

Tyrion falls off the fourth dragon and dies during battle. That's what you get for drunk dragon flying. He bounces as high as he is tall. Daenerys dies in battle when her dragon is shot down by Cersei. Arya squares off with Cersei wearing Jamie's face in a hand to hand fight. After offing Cersei, she sheds Jamie's face and looks at Cersei's corpse and says, 'not today.' Jon is mortally wounded in battle and conceives a male child with Arya on his deathbed in an effort to pass on the line and claim to the throne. Gotta get one more round of incest in there, even if it's incest in spirit. Arya takes the throne until the male child is ready to rule. After the battle the spoils are divided. Samwell and Gilly get a bitch'n castle somewhere so they can squeeze out a bunch of pups. Jamie goes back to the girl @BigWoof31 chased at bar closing. Sansa rules the north.

yeah but does an autistic kid pick up a snow globe with ‘Westros’ written on it as the screen turns to black and white as ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and then the picture suddenly disappears?

I suspect there is a big twist to the plot coming. Like maybe the Golden Company changing sides or the Iron Bank changing sides, Or Cersi doing something epicly horrible. Just 2 episodes to wrap everything up? That sounds almost impossible to do.
You clearly haven't been paying attention this season and last. D&D have made it abundantly clear that they give 0 fucks about pacing and any sense of timing. They have been "over" GoT since Season 6 and now just want to do other things so they are just slapping these high budget turds of CGI and action at us without any effort on writing and plot. Spent 6 seasons bringing GRRM's life work to the screen only to bludgeon it as soon as they passed him up.

I enjoy GRRM's work but he is much closer to the pulp fiction of Robert e. Howard (Conan) than he is Tolstoy (or a hundred other novelists). C'mon, when your main antagonist is zombies we're really in comic book area. C'est la vie. I like the books and I'm entertained by the series. Really wasn't looking for a philosophical epiphany in either.

The biggest problem the show has, in my opinion, is that one of the biggest appeals of the books is the immersive world it creates, to GRRM’s immense credit... and also his detriment because that is clearly what is taking him so long to finish up- the attention to detail he has put into it.

Unlike the show, he can’t just completely forget about Dorne because he kills off the sand snakes, or all the lords in The Stormlands, Riverlands, and Westerlands because they have one scene establishing them taking a single castle.

I was actually pretty disappointed at first when I read A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons because they introduced so many brand new characters that I didn’t really care about.

But it created a world where the theories, the history, and the lore are at least as interesting as the main story.

And the show completely cuts all that out. And granted, they have to because it’s not a median where you can explore immersive worlds, but it sets the show up for failure pretty much no matter what - because it is so, so dumb that literally every other house is out of the picture in this struggle, and Highgarden didn’t have an army or defenses, where is the Redwyne fleet? and what’s going on with Casterly Rock? and so on.

The show just can’t give fans of the books what they want, no matter what.

In that sense, I don’t even view it as the same story anymore - and although it is pretty lame if they are managing to spoil some major plot points along the way, I am still primarily looking forward to the book and don’t really have many expectations for the show one way or the other- although it is still a fun past time to criticize it, it’s not like it upsets me or anything.

That's where I am, too. It's still enjoyable to watch as long as you don't think about it too much. If you are trying to draw lines from the earliest seasons to figure out what is going to happen, it's going to drive you nuts because so much has been tossed out the window of a tower. But if you sit back and enjoy some epic mindless tv, it's perfectly fine entertainment.
