Looks like Alliser Thorne was right though... letting the Wildings in really did effectively end the Night's Watch.
Well, the purpose of the Night's Watch was to defend the realm against the Others, who happened to disappear for several millennia so everyone kinda got distracted.

Rather than an end, I'd like to view it as a reconnection with their roots under the visionary guidance of Jon Snow.

Those are all plausible theories as to why the Night's Watch guys threw down their weapons, but I can assure you, it was because they all heard wifey scream "kill those motherfuckers that killed my Jon Snow!!!".

I threw down my weapons and I had nothing to do with Jon Snow's death...

Visionary guidance? I always got the feeling that he knew nothing.

Perhaps he knew nothing when he was following the misguided, archaic and xenophobic wildling focused policies the Night's Watch had drifted to over the centuries.

Tower of Joy flashback ftw. Fans wanted this in the first season but Dave and Dan said there wouldn't be any flashbacks.

Hopefully they use the dialog from the book but they'll probably change it just enough to tell themselves they "created" it.

I'm just disappointed it'll be with the recast younger Ned and not Sean Bean.

I miss Ned. The story really needs someone not named Littlefinger or Varys who knows what's going on- which is why I think everyone wants Benjen to come back so much.

I've said before, my entire interest in the stories is for a Stark to be back in Winterfell and kicking some ass. I really don't even care about Daenerys.
