I really shouldn't have watched this weeks episode before I went to bed last night. Took me an extra hour to calm down enough to go to sleep. Jon Snow is the only Stark left to pull for.

You're leaving Arya out. Remember the red witch foretold that she would drain the life out of many men's eyes. She's alway wanted to be a warrior and only turned down the no-face guy in order to find her family. Now, she knows her family is dead.

I foresee some bitching training montages with The Hound. Perhaps like Yoda and Luke with Arya running through a swamp with the hound on her back.

The Red Wedding was so stunning in the books I kept having to go back and read it again to be sure what was happening and what happened. I threw the book across the room, swearing never to pick it up again.

The Stark mistakes (of which there are many):

NED STARK

1. Betrothing Sansa to a sociopathic entitled monster of a child in Joffrey without learning anything about him.

2. Taking both Sansa and Arya to King's Landing with Eddard in the first place. (I have no issue with Ned taking the job as the Hand because, quite frankly, he was the only hope King Robert had of competently governing Westeros with honor)

3. Ned telling Cersei that he knew about her and Jamie (and their three children).

4. Ned trusting anybody in King's Landing besides his friend, the King. How could he not know the reputation of the people there?

ROBB AND CATELYN STARK

1. Leaving Winterfell to Bran and Rickon essentially unprotected.

2. Letting Theon go. Obviously.

3. Not honoring his vow to marry a Frey girl. Look man, sometimes we just gotta take one for the team. And his team was his family, his army, and his bannerman. Walder Frey was right: Robb chose lust over duty.

4. Catelyn releasing the Kingslayer. Obviously.

5. Decapitating Karstark. Not a damn thing he could have done was going to bring those Lannister boys back. And it was Catelyn to blame more than anyone for it having happened because it was quite foreseeable. Yet Robb let his mother keep her head.

5. Trusting Walder Frey. I'm not sure anything Robb could have done at this point was going to save the war for them. They would probably have been trapped at Riverrun, but he could have at least then died with some honor.

Bottom line: The Starks were damned fools. Not even honorable damned fools because both Catelyn and Robb abandoned their honor for motives that did not serve the North. If they didn't deserve their fate, they definitely earned it.

I'll also say that the Red Wedding does not play well for television ratings. The entire tv series has been built on the Starks vs. Lannisters. Well, the Lannisters won. So now what?

(I mean, I know there's a lot more to come and all, but from the vantage point of the viewer, who is going to take up the Stark mantle? As stated before, there is no one left besides the two girls, crippled Bran, and the child Rickon)

He and what army? The Northern army was decimated at the Twins. No Karstarks. No Boltons. No Freys.

There has been some suspicion (and no, this isn't in the books) that Jon Snow is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryan and Lyanna Stark; and that Ned Stark promised his sister not to tell anyone for fear that Jon Snow would be murdered as a Targaryan.

It's not entirely unreasonable. Ned Stark was honorable to a fault. Hard to believe he would have dishonored Catelyn, even during a time of war. They've intentionally made Jon Snow quite pale, similar to the skin tone of the Targaryan.

And there are THREE dragons. Suppose one of them could be for Snow?

I like that theory. I have always thought that the mother of Jon Snow would be a MAJOR reveal at some point in the story and legitimize him somehow. It's almost hard to see it going any other way- but then again, major characters do tend to die out pretty quickly in this series. You know who might know something like that? Ned's brother, who just so happens to be missing at the moment and will likely come back in at some point...

As far as the army, last time I checked (and this is from the books so possible *SPOILER ALERT*) there is one stomping around up there- although I haven't read the fifth book yet so I'm not sure what the most up to date status of that is.

Another *SPOILER ALERT*, it wouldn't be too surprising if Bran's journey ended up with him being a leader of the wild men and natural forces north of the wall since his injury has put him more in tune with that sort of thing. That could be another potential ally as well.

Perhaps we should get another thread going that only talks about the books so the people who only enjoy watching the show don't have to worry about having things ruined, although I am fairly confident I was careful enough in this post not to give much of anything away.

Yes please. Book thread. Do it. Choose positivity.

I'd do it myself but starting the mermaid thread on my phone took me 41 hrs.

41 hrs of pain.

What happened to the army of zombies from last years finale? (Bookies please don't answer that question, just making a statement) We've seen one zombie this year that got killed by a useless fatass.

I've read the books, but the answer was given in the show as well. The Army of Zombies slaughtered the majority of the crows at The Fist of the First Men, driving them back to Craster's Keep.
