Regarding the Penn State game, I have to say that I really don't see how so many believe that Penn State was "in it" all the way till the two picks, sure the score said that, but that offense was never "in it." Penn States offense was just horrendous, it made ours look at least decent... our defense completley dominated them and never showed signs of letting up.

All in all, it was a terrific game, a great battle of defenses, but I just think that was a buckeye win plain and simple, it may have been an "ugly" one (in terms of our offensive production compared to the expected production), but that game was all but tied at halftime and the better team just pulled it out in the end.

Instant Analysis: Penn State-Ohio State

By Matt Zemek

As Troy Smith turns, so do the Ohio State Buckeyes. Until today, no one could have known just how literal that truth would turn out to be.

If you braved the rain in the Horseshoe or viewed the proceedings on television, you didn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out when the No. 1 team in the land stayed atop the heap in college football: Troy Smith's spin-o-rama and subsequent touchdown pass to Brian Robiskie was the kind of play that changes the dynamic of a close, tense Big Ten mudder. And while a false start from an unfortunate Penn State lineman (on 4th and goal inside the Buckeye 1) sealed the Nittany Lions' fate, it was still Smith's play that gave the home team needed breathing room. A good turn by No. 10 turned this game around.

This victory for the Buckeyes--while highlighted by Smith's one outstanding play--was reflective of something much more significant than their highly-publicized quarterback. Everything about this 28-6 triumph--made deceivingly decisive by two pick-sixes in the final minutes--pointed to OSU's possession of the football virtue known as resourcefulness. Indeed, the balance, competence and diversity of the Buckeyes--in all phases of the game--is the truest indicator of their quality. Whether it was the stellar punting of A.J. Trapasso, the running of Antonio Pittman, or the combined efforts of a defense that made both goal-line stands and point-producing picks, Ohio State brought a lot more to the table than No. 10, who made some key plays but was once again in the background in a spotlight game. The ability to win on a day when the messy conditions limited the speed of their offense--and when Penn State gained a big advantage as a result--speaks to the resourcefulness of this Buckeye team. And in Columbus, a resourceful Jim Tressel team is a team that has a great chance to go undefeated. Just remember the last time OSU found many different ways of winning football games: the year was 2002, and you know how that year ended for the Bucks.

Penn State fought hard and valiantly on a day when Joe Paterno had flu-like symptoms, but in the end, Ohio State had more skills and options to call upon. Penn State's offense has to dig out of a ditch; the Bucks move on to Iowa with even more confidence in their abilities.

Jo Pa made a funny comment at the Press Conf after the game. When asked if it was embarrasing to come off the field durring the game he remarked...It would have been far more embarrasing if I had stayed.

He made an obviously uncomfortable situation funny as hell. I like Jo Pa.

Ohio State's offense rolled up 253 total yards, while Penn State's got 248. Does that mean that the Buckeyes' offense was "horrendous", and that PSU's defense "completely dominated" the Bucks and "never showed signs of letting up"?

Twice, Penn State drove to inside the five-yard line (13 plays, 67 yards; 10 plays, 74 yards), and settled for field goals. Ohio State scored touchdowns on an extended drive (9 plays, 75 yards), and a highlight reel play by Troy. The Bucks' defense played exceptionally well in the red zone (while Penn State was getting ultra-conservative) and iced the game in the final three minutes, but Penn State was able to move the ball on the ground throughout the game.

Penn State was definitely in the game until Jenkins' pick, and their running attack was certainly not "horrendous". Morelli was a major factor in PSU's defeat.

The crowd was fired up yesterday. I didn't get home until nearly 9pm after hanging out in the RV lot with some friends and getting a light for my Macanudo from a Penn State fan.

My voice is gone. Worst its been since Texas last year. Tried to say something to my kids this morning and it came out sounding like a cat's dying breath.

As a favor a for a close friend, I walked a guy about my age through his first Ohio State game. This guy is a Miami Hurricanes fan. He couldn't imagine the scene on Lane Avenue. It had him in awe. We stopped by the gameday set at about 2:00. Nothing was going on but the scUM/Wisky game on the big screen. We high tailed it for the Shoe. He commented on how big the stadium looked. But once inside he said "The place looks so much bigger on TV."

He was a band geek in high school, so the ramp entrance impressed him. As did Script Ohio. When the entered the field, I looked over at him and was wide eyed mouthing "WOW" to himself. He leaned over and said something like "is it always this loud?" I told him hadn't heard shit yet, wait til a third down.

All in all, by the end of the day, Mr. Da "U" fan was yelling "OH" and getting deafening "IO"s in return.

Saving souls, one Saturday at a time, in the Church of Chic Harley.

U DA MAN!!

I think every college football fan should be able to experience a good game day every now and then.

Oh yeah. One more note I forgot to mention.

I have a tradition for every Big Ten home opener, I give away a Buckeye Necklace to one kid going to their first game.

Yesterday's recipient was a 4 or 5 year old bespectacled girl in full Buckeye Cheerleader dress complete with pom poms and hair ribbons. She was a cutie.

Why is it that you only give necklaces to 4 or 5 year old bespectacled girl in full Buckeye Cheerleader dress complete with pom poms and hair ribbons
lol
joking!!
It's great that you do that, It's what a Buckeye fan would do

So just before haltime, after the run by Hunt following the sack of Morelli, the play clock didn't start when it should.

Penn State was able to run 54 seconds off the clock after that play.
I noticed that but I guess we could have called time out had we wanted to and didnt
:oh:

This bit from the article:

CPD said:
Quinn Pitcock's helmet was in a quarterback's stomach and Malcolm Jenkins' fingers were on the football.
Pitcock's pressure on Nittany Lions quarterback Anthony Morelli led to the second interception this season for Jenkins

is indicative of a sports writer actually having paid attention to the game.

I'm stunned.
