Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

easy there bucklion, I don't think he's talking to you. Tho it's not hard to wonder if you are a buckeye nittany lion fan given your name.

btw, did anyone catch the part where they asked JoePa if he'd text msg'ed a recruit? His answer was obviously no. They later asked if he had a blackberry... which he responded no but he liked blueberries. Just a humorous interlude during an annoying broadcast of the entire PSU romp when most of us wanted to see the ASU-USC game.

Sorry man, my tone was probably a little strong...none of this bothers me, because I've been through it all before. I meant nothing by it. As I said, I agree with you...they've proven nothing so far, but they have their chance this weekend.

I did catch the text messaging/blueberry thing...it was funny, but not quite as much as the cheesy commentators were trying to make it out to be...I think they almost ruined it.

It's really tough to point to our one loss as our best game this year guys. That's why we need this game. Too many Buckeye fans look at the Texas game and say, "Look, we hung with the #2 team in the country. We should have won. We are one of the best teams in the country." The fact is, we didn't win. I don't care how good a team you play, if you don't beat them, it's tough to use it to show how great your team is. Penn State is 5-0. They have BEATEN better teams than we have BEATEN. They have also struggled with teams that we wouldn't struggle with, but they still won. Would Penn State have beaten Texas? No. Now i'm not saying Ohio State isn't one of the best teams in the country, because I think they are. But, we haven't proven it on the field yet either. If respect is earned on the field, Penn State deserves more this year than we do.

I PRAY Ohio State doesn't go into Happy Valley not showing the respect Penn State DOES deserve. They've had a great season so far. And just looking at how a team was the year before doesn't tell you how good a team is now. That may work for game 1 or game 2, but this is midseason now. It's this years team. Ohio State went 7-5 in 2001 and lost to Penn State. So did that mean in 2002 we were to be about that good again? Obviously not. Who cares if Penn State stunk in 2004. They are pretty good in 2005. They haven't played a team as good as us. We haven't beaten a team as good as them. Trash talk all you want, but neither team really has proved anything yet.

Let's see...the MAC team that Penn State beat 40-3 was C. Michigan, a team that beat Miami, OH. So you can't say we beat a better team there. We also beat San Diego State...a team that I would say is about as good as Northwestern. So what that leaves is Penn State beating Minnesota, S. Florida, and Cincinnati. Well Cincinnati is horrible, so that win means nothing. But I'd say that Minnesota and S. Florida look just as impressive as Iowa this year. Iowa does have a better defense than those two schools, but they have better offenses, and Penn State shut them down. If you just want to argue defense, then yes, Penn State hasn't gone against much defense. I'd say the best defense they've played against is S. Florida. It was a S. Florida team that held Louisville in check, so it's not a horrible defense...but Iowa's is stronger. But when you look at overall wins, at least to me, their 5 wins look more impressive than our 3. Like I said before...we've played a much tougher schedule, but we also lost a game. Gotta give a team credit for 5-0. I think they deserve as much credit for going 5-0 as we do for going 3-0 in our games that weren't Texas.

Penn States talent isn't even close to what Texas has! That being said, it doesn't mean that PSU can't beat us, because they are capable. Will they get it done? I think if we lose it will be more because we played down to their level. That can happen. :2004:

I was bored with this thread a week ago!" Our team is going to wup your ass, yada yada yada.... "

I was going to write a long, analytical post that contrasted the teams we've played vs. the teams PSU has played, taking into account each team's offensive and defensive rankings....and then I remembered 2 things:
I'm lazy.
Penn State sucks.

Think back to before the Texas game and remember every bad thing anyone said about Vince Young not being able to throw the ball. Now imagine it were all true, and take away about half his running ability. Ladies and Gentlement I give you Michael Robinson. Put him at QB for Texas and we kick their ass. Take away 2/3 of the talent on the Texas team and you have Penn State. If we play sound football and don't shoot ourselves in the balls we win by 20.
You say neither team has done anything this year, I disagree. The Ohio State University defense has proven that they are arguably the best defense in the country. #1 Defense against the run, after having played the #1 rushing offense.
PSU will not be able to run the ball against us. Michael Robinson completes 52% of his passes, and they haven't played against a good defense.
Stop trying to tell me this game will be close.

RUMOR: Bad News For the Nittany Lions O-Line

Couldn't find any independent verification - i.e. from PSU sites, hence I'm tentatively listing this with the RUMOR prefix...

Suggested that John Wilson their Senior starting tackle sustained a knee inury, out for the year. Nitt Lion fans not all high on backup Farris.

Linked to that page because it has some odd things to claim about Mike (Beast) Kudla.

If true this is a pretty big blow and gives Nitt-pickers some grist for the mill of "what coulda been" should things work out better than even we hope this Saturday.
Reportedly this happened as a result of very hard practices this week in Happy Valley.

In other news came across this pre-game breakdown on the FightonState site.

Its in PDF

Weather update for State College, PA:

Saturday:

80% chance of rain.
Game time temps: lower 50s

There is definite rain coming folks. It looks like it should end sometime Saturday night. Will it be before, during, or after the game is the question. I'm sure we will no more in a couple days, but this is big. The Buckeyes do not want it to rain!
