Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

The Buckeyes do not want it to rain!
and why is that? For the fans? Do you think Robinson, a RB I don't remember and won't a year from now, and their OL will do better than Smith, Pittman and our OL in bad weather? It could make things uglier and let them eek out a win, but I think making it even harder on a poor passer like Robinson would be an awful development for PSU.

I understand your reserved hopes for this weekend, as this will be a tough test... but you seem to think we are in big trouble, as well as your fear that we will go into happy valley not respecting PSU (which doesn't make much sense given Tressel, our struggles with them, our record in Happy Valley, and the obvious speed on offense that they've been watching for over a week)

Yeah, why would that be? If anything, the rain would slow down the PSU freshmen speedsters, and that's basically all they've got going for them offensively. Both teams can run the ball about the same, and neither defense will care all that much, so I'd think advantage, OSU.

rain would make experienced, disciplined runners win out over flashy rookies that rely on quick cuts. Put Derrick Williams and AJ Hawk in the open field with loose footing, who is hurt more? XC, rain is not something to worry about. Sure, it could cause something bad to happen, but I think it would more likely slow them down than us.

Follow up on Injury Report

As of today Ohio State reports no new injuries.

From USA Today Penn State reports the following -- though take the list with a grain of salt...

<TABLE cellSpacing=1 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top bgColor=#ffdccb><TD class=small-copy-sans width="20%">Penn State </TD><TD class=small-copy-sans width="80%"><TABLE width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD class=small-copy-sans width="36%">C. Auletta is 3rd deep at LT on the O-line
Connor is now back listed as 2-deep at OLB, so that appears to be old news that was not updated.
Rubin is truly gone indefinitely, Chisley likewise - both being old news.
Harrison I don't know about.
No mention as yet of Wilson being gone.

When I think rain, at night, I just get reminded of Wisky game in '03. I'm positive we win that game if it weren't raining.
I can't wait until this game ends, and we win by 10-14 points, and so many of the fears based on nite, PSU, bye week, etc are proven wrong.

We happened to lose almost every other game against Wisky that wasn't in the rain too, so that might be more of why we lost. Clarett was gimpy, Smith throws a lot better than Krenzel, and they don't have Anthony Davis.

Whats more unusual? Cancelling recruiting visits? or PSU being 5 - 0 in the neo-JoePa era?
Whats more important to recruiting? The OSU PSU game? or going undefeated. I'm not one to say that Penn State will do so, but maybe, just maybe Joe Pa sees it this way. We are the team to beat on their schedule. I wouldn't look to far into it. If I were Joe Pa, this game would require all of my time and attention. If PSU plays the way they did against Minny, they could do the same to the Rest of their schedule. Of course, they do need to get past our D, and that takes special attention. I'll take Joe Pa for what he says in this case.

I can't wait for that to happen either!

More genius' at PSU's board: Penn State 38 Ohio State 17 (Bells is so smart, don't dare argue with him)

Sheesh, no shit. Check out some of his doosies:

"The Buckeyes neanderthal play and PSU's quickness on both sides of the ball makes the difference."

"Their linebackers are no match and too slow for our running backs and speedy wr's. Their D is not built for a spread offense with speed and quickness."

"The Buckeye linebackers are stiff, short and bulky. The almost have too much bulk for college. If you isolate a running back on them you will win every time."

"In addition to that , the Buckeye defense does have trouble against spread offenses. Review the Northwestern game in which they lost 33-27 last year and you would see that the Buckeye D has a tough time in space."

"You are drunk on rhetoric. This BS about Ohio State's defense is just that BS. Anyone with basic football knowledge would know that RB's are always quicker than linebackers."

"The Buckeyes do not deploy 200-220 lb linebackers but 6'1" 240-245 lb'ers. If you have any clue about the human anatomy you would know that these players are stiffer and more stout not quicker."

I wish we had a Get-The-Fuck-Outta-Here Award to give this clown...

We've argued the topic to death, might as well go back to the smack:

More genius' at PSU's board: Penn State 38 Ohio State 17 (Bells is so smart, don't dare argue with him)

Some ridiculous quotes from the above-mentioned PSU site:

"The Buckeye's are very good but not dominant like they used to be during the Cooper years. Their defense is not as fast as you think. They are well disciplined and play fast in their zones.
Their linebackers are no match and too slow for our running backs and speedy wr's. Their D is not built for a spread offense with speed and quickness."

"The Buckeye linebackers are stiff, short and bulky. The almost have too much bulk for college. If you isolate a running back on them you will win every time."

"This is a game Penn State wins easily as long as they don't turn the ball over. With no turnovers, the likelihood of PSU blowing out OSU is far greater than OSU blowing out PSU.
I predicted PSU would easily handle the Gophers and I'm on record predicting the same against the Buckeyes."

"I agree, don't think it's even going to be close. OSU really has no idea what they're getting themselves into. It's going to be a war zone."

I can't believe the audacity of these guys. You'd think that they were 5-0 and beat USC, UT, Va. Tech, Georgia, and us the way they're talking. I'm going to love it when we go into their house and win on Saturday.
