G/F Evan "The Villain" Turner (2010 Naismith Winner)

Coming back "without a doubt" seems pretty solid to me.

Things could change between now and the end of the Big Dance, but in the meantime, I'm happy thinking of Evan and Lighty tearing up the Big Ten next year. Hopefully Buford & Mullens stick around too.

Conley was a top five pick, it would take a tremendous tournament(both Big Ten and NCAA) run for Turner to even have a chance to crack the lottery. Right now he'd probably go between 20-30, and I'd lean more towards the lower end and that thirties. I think he needs to show what position he's going to play in the pros, because I'm not sure he's big enough to play and guard NBA threes but I don't know if he has the handle/shooting ability(the consistency aspect) to be a NBA two guard.

Congrats to Evan on being named First Team All Big Ten. (Kalin Lucas of MSU was POY in both Coaches and media selections, although he wasn't unanimous 1st team by the media).

Turner Named All-Big Ten

Turner is the 47th Buckeye all-time to earn the award. The Buckeyes have had a first team member in each of the last four seasons.

Turner led Ohio State in nearly every statistical category this season. He topped the Buckeyes in scoring (16.8 ppg.), rebounding (201/6.9 rpg.), assists (112), steals (50), minutes (1,044/36.0 mpg.), field goals made (165), free throws made (201), offensive rebounds (48) and defensive rebounds (153).

He earned the league?s player of the week honor three times and led the Buckeyes in scoring in 15 games, reaching 10 or more points 24 times and 20 or more in seven games.

Turner was the only unanimous first team selection by both the coaches and league media.

If this all holds, Turner will be one of the best returning players in the country, and will benefit from a lot more pre-season hype than he did this year. Even without Mullins, this is going to be a much improved team with considerably more national exposure. That alone should boost his draft stock, even if his game remains static (which it certainly won't).

Financially, staying could turn out to be a very smart move, and it sounds like Evan would enjoy being at OSU for at least another year. Obviously, we'd all love to see that. :oh:

If turner could play with intensity for more then the last 5 minutes of close ball games, he would be so dangerous.

What you guys are saying is the same situation where Conley was...Obviously this team isn't set for a big run in the tourney by any means, but they could win a couple games in the big ten tourney and win a couple in the tourney...Now I am not saying that he is going to blow up and end up a top 5 draft pick, but I am just saying don't take the word as gospel until the declare date is past...

And the reason to declare is simple, go to workouts and camps and see where you stand vs. the rest of players, for this year, and then what they would like you to work on...

Or you could have an exhausted Turner for the last five minutes of close ball games. An awful lot is asked of this kid who is averaging 36 minutes a game against consistent double and triple teaming.

I have to disagree with this and I am not being a homer but if you would take Lucas away from MSU they might have lost a couple more games but take Turner away from Ohio State and you would probably see 4-5 more losses. I know that this isn't a most valuable player award but it is supposed to be the award to the best player in the Big 10 and I am not really sure that Lucas is the best player in the entire Big 10.

If he can't put in 100% effort for 36 minutes then he shouldn't play 36 minutes. The last several ball games, Offut came in and really contributed defensively and didn't make any costly mistakes on the offensive side. you could also play Hill and Simmons at the 1 and 2 with Dallas and Mullens at the 4 and 5 and rotate Diebler/Turner/Bufford at the 3 to give them rest if needed.

It isn't hard to get your guys rest....timely substitutions (1 minute before media time outs), use of 30 second time outs before media time outs, etc.

Does it really benefit us to have him sleepwalking through half of a game committing mind numbing turnovers? I would rather have 30 minutes of Turner at 100% than 36 minutes of Turner at 80%

I didn't watch all of their games, but when I did, Lucas was not only capable of matching Turner's greatness but he was more consistent out there.

I might agree that Lucas might have been more consistent but look at the following numbers and especially the minutes that could be a big reason. Just sayin:wink2:

Dispatch

Turner, along with Talor Battle of Penn State, was in contention for Big Ten player of the year, an award that was given last night to Kalin Lucas of Michigan State. In Big Ten games, Turner ranked first in points per game (17.3), first in free throws made (100) and attempted (129), second in assists (4.44) and minutes (38.17), fourth in rebounds (6.8) and fifth in field-goal percentage (.507). Jon Diebler made 50 percent of his three-point shots for the week

St. Joseph's Evan Turner man of hour for Ohio State

He leads the charge over Michigan State in Big Ten semis

March 15, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS ? Ohio State has emerged as the surprise team of the Big Ten tournament, but it's no shock Evan Turner is leading the way.

Scoreless at halftime of Saturday's 82-70 semifinal victory over Michigan State, the sophomore forward from St. Joseph scored 18 points in the second half for the fifth-seeded Buckeyes (22-9).

"Coach ( Thad Matta) made some pretty good calls for me to get open and let me create, but my teammates were hitting jump shots, which opened stuff up," said Turner, who also pulled down 10 rebounds.
