G D'Angelo Russell (Unanimous 1st Team All-American, All-Star, Los Angeles Lakers)

This is a decision I can get behind. None of this leaving early to go to Europe crap here. This kid is a top 5 pick and a future star.

Yes, finally OSU loses a guy to the NBA draft who actually will play in the NBA. It was kind of a no-brainer for him to leave. I wish him well, but it will be interesting to see how well he does. I'm not quite sure how he will develop from here, I don't think he will become the next Curry, but at least he should become a good shooter at the next level.

Personally I think the "loss" for OSU the way I look at it is moreso what he would be next year as opposed to what he was last year. No doubt he put up big stats for a freshman, credit him for improving as the year wore on and Matta for putting him in positions where he could get all the shots he wanted. But his play last year was so hot and cold, and he didn't end up carrying OSU to many wins over quality teams (VCU was his one great performance for a big game) and mostly helped them win games they typically win no matter who is leading them. The positive, he seems to be a good guy to continue to have associated with OSU and obviously Russell being drafted as high as he will can serve as a reminder to the recruits out there that Matta does a great job of featuring his stars and helping them get picked in the first round.

I might agree with the "hot and cold" statement but for me it was mostly very warm most of the games that they played this season. I am not going to go back and look at all the games and how many points he scored in each of those games but I think you know that scoring is only one facet of a game. Sometimes when he did not score like you wanted him to there were so many other ways that he helped the team by finding other guys that scored and also his rebounding was nothing to be laughed at. I do not know maybe you are just talking about the UNC and Louisville game as our big games last season. I think you also have to remember that other teams did not have to be too worried about the other 4 guys on the court scoring many points. The team was lacking in that area.

Best of luck to him as he continues his basketball career at the professional level.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Arizona, they would've been in that game at the end if he just hit 40% of his shots instead of 15%, and it's not like he was taking bad or unusually tough shots he was just missing them. His shooting stats percentage-wise against the best teams OSU faced were pretty consistently average to below-average. He did light it up against the likes of Northwestern, PSU and some scrub nonconference teams, got on a roll at times against Purdue and Iowa and obviously had a great game vs VCU (at least before the cut). He was average on defense, he did get a few tough rebounds but other than that wasn't much of a positive factor on that end of the court. He was a good passer, but there aren't many guys who get remembered for passing the ball. He took a lot of shots, so other guys weren't scoring partly because they weren't getting the shots, or getting the plays designed for them like he was. Matta really caters his offense to his star players, he has helped a couple guys get drafted clearly much higher in hindsight than they should have been, Russell might be another one that is added in that group. I hope he does great in the NBA, but I'm not going to completely absolve Russell from all blame for the team underachieving this past season when he was the leader and is getting all of this hype. He had a great freshman year statistically, but hot and cold is exactly how I would describe it.

He's doing what he has to do for himself and his family. I got no problems with that at all.

Having said that, how fanfreakingtastic would basketball in general be if they just added one more mandatory year for college players? Sophomore and go. Could get an Associates in 2 years, not a real valuable item, but still an accomplishment nonetheless.

Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell: “I’m the best in the draft”

You have to love the confidence. You have to love the little smirk at the end of this comment.

When asked what made him so sure he was the best player, he responded, “Did you watch?”

Ohio State’s guard D’Angelo Russell may think he’s the best, but he knows he is going to go third, maybe fourth, in the upcoming NBA Draft. Most teams have Karl Anthony-Towns at the top of their boards, with the polished Jahlil Okafor second. And even if those teams drafting in the top two spots after the lottery are loaded already in the frontcourt — think Philadelphia — they will draft one of those two first, and then later trade a big for what they need.

SILK NOT SILKY AT GOLF. It's a good thing an NBA team isn't drafting D'Angelo Russell for his golfing acumen...
