G D'Angelo Russell (Unanimous 1st Team All-American, All-Star, Los Angeles Lakers)

I have watched a lot of OSU basketball players over my time. Thought Evan and craft were some of the better ones, but Russell is far and beyond any of them.
I played a good game when I was younger and I could see myself in him (Russell) a lot. In my time we were taught to move the ball and less dribble. But times and rules have changed the game tremendously, but he just possesses the knack to find the open man at the right time.
I like a lot of us out here, would love to see him stick around a couple more years, but I don't think that this will be the case. His game could be so infectious to others on the team. Too bad that we MAY lose him to the NBA..

Derek Rose was an MVP with no D and a weak shot..so yes Russell is top #5..he can't jump like Rose but he shoots and passes better..and has a midrange game. I think this team has not allowed him to really showcase his whole package.

You're comparing Russell to Rose honestly? Let's get real. Russell is a good NBA prospect, but the weaker teams in the league are desperate to add relatively cheap talent through the draft. Rose dominated college basketball at the end of his freshman season, few players are as excellent in college as he was then or as good as he is now in the league. The thing that holds Russell back I think is I do not see him as having the the fastest twitch of the fast twitch athleticism that excels in the NBA. He is good enough to be a solid player but any team that wants to take him in the top-5 or top-10 thinking he will develop into a Rose, Westbrook or some kind of consistent all-star is going to be disappointed I think.

I won't sell Russell short that Memphis team was far more talented than the Buckeyes are..Motta coaches a true college game. I think Russell is more suited to the NBA...he may not have the explosion of Rose or Westbrook but I am seeing him be very effective and a player you can win games with ...Westbrook and Rose are on sport center but don't win. To me Russell compares to a Tony Parker.

Tony Parker is a 6-time all-star in the NBA. So you think Russell will be making the all-star game that often? I don't believe so, I just don't believe he will be there based on what I've seen. Frankly he would be doing well just to make 1 all-star game IMO.

Not every great guard in the NBA has the athleticism of a Rose or a Westbrook. What D'Angelo does have, and what makes him appealing to NBA types, is his feel for the game. He processes what he sees on the floor so well and is able to get to his spots and find teammates in their best spots as well. Doesn't hurt that he also shoots it at a 40%+ clip from 3, has a very solid mid-range game, and can also get to the rim. Reminds me quite a bit of James Harden. How anyone can watch the kid and not see a quality NBA player worthy of a top 5 or 10 pick is completely beyond me.

Oh, and he's not even 19 freaking years old yet.

I think some fans would be expecting too much from him if he was picked there. I know not every guy who is a top-5 or top-10 pick is an all-star, but fans will be expecting or at least hoping for that from those picks and if they don't that deliver it's a disappointment. It's a harsh world in the next level, some folks even consider Glenn Robinson a bust and he averaged 20 ppg. So apparently NorthCoastKid and OneBuckFan are on record predicting Russell to make multiple all-star games and get a max contract.

I see his ceiling as #2 and his floor as #4. Okafor is going first, no doubt about that. Two through four is most likely going to be, in no particular order, Russell, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Emmanuel Mudiay. Where those guys go will be contingent on their best fit with where teams fall in the lottery.

He should have high expectations from fans going in to the league because he's really freaking good at basketball! Watching all season, it's clear to me the the guy is one of the best guards in college basketball and will probably be a first team All-American selection. That's worthy of high expectations at the next level. By no means am I "going on record" in predicting multiple ASG appearances, but his ceiling is representative of someone who should make multiple appearances and be worthy of a max deal down the line.

Clearly you haven't been swayed or convinced of Russell's high potential in the NBA, but that puts you in the minority at this point. I'm interested to know who you think is worthy of a top 5 or top 10 pick in this June's draft.

BTW, I'd *love* to see these supposed "folks" you claim exist that consider Glenn Robinson a bust. Because those people don't know the meaning of the word.

Again, I think he will be a good NBA player, just not quite the caliber of player that teams in the top-10 are hoping to get. I think there are a lot of unrealistic NBA fans that think anybody they take in the top-5, and sometimes top-10, will save their franchise. Some of these teams are idiotic, like the Sixers who just traded the rookie of the year to get more draft picks, they think eventually they will draft a couple superstars but those guys are in very short supply.

BTW, I have heard local radio sports personalities call Glenn Robinson a bust.

He will be an all star..he is no MAX CONTRACT PLAYER..my Bulls fell in love with Rose and overpaid him and now their saddled with a crippled 6 foot 2 guard. Russell doesn't rely soley on explosion..he has a higher basketball IQ than Rose does and will be an all star..just not a top 5..he isn' a Kobe or KD.
