G Brent Darby (B1G Champion, RIP)

Brent Darby dead at 30

Former Ohio State guard Brent Darby died this morning in a Detroit hospital, two of his former teammates confirmed for The Dispatch today. He was 30.

One of the teammates, Neshaun Coleman, said he learned from one of Darby's former in-laws this morning that Darby had been hospitalized last night with blood clots in his legs, possibly the result of complications from heart surgery he had undergone earlier this year.

Too young. Very sad.

I remember him and Tom Coverdale going at it several times over their career. Darby was such a fun player to watch; small in stature, big in heart.

great call on that one. man i HATED coverdale with a passion

Darby, from River Rouge, Mich., played at Ohio State from 1999 through 2003 and scored 1,368 points. He averaged 18.3 points as a senior in 2002-03, including 35 in a loss to Duke in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in Greensboro, N.C.

I remember Darby was a huge recruiting win for ex coach Jim O'Brien. May he rest in peace.

Heart surgery? Hard to believe when you hear superior athletes having heart problems. Way too young to die. :(
