Future Football Schedules (Updated 8/31/2024)

Coop regularly lost big games, didn't matter who the opponent was.

Glendale was a no-show.

LSU was better than everyone that year when Dorsey was healthy.

OSU beat Arkansas with a long lay-off

I don't see the "can't" in there.
My biggest issue with this forum is nitpicking. I'm pretty sure my point was made without having to dispute one game. Especially since I said couldn't regularly, not flat out couldn't.

Re: Ohio State jus anounced a home-and-home with TCU. 2018 in Fort Worth, 2019 in Columbus.

Not bad. Hopefully they add another marquee game for those two years.

Do you really consider TCU (aka Gee's little sisters of the poor) a "marquee game"?

Yeah, I know they are a Big XII team now and are currently 4-0; however, they haven't actually played a good team yet. They could even go 7-0 with their 2012 schedule. Their five toughest games is their last five (OSU, WVU, KSU, OU, & Texas).

Yeah I wouldn't consider them a marquee game either but on the other hand I think people are worrying too much about SoS. Even with a higher emphasis on it once the playoff starts an undefeated OSU team isn't going to be held out of the top 4 due to SoS unless we looked pathetic all season, the B1G is like it is this year, AND there are 4 other undefeated AQ teams(Not from the Big East).

An undefeated Ohio State might not be held out, but I guarantee you that--based upon the perceived weakness of the Big Ten--a 1 loss Ohio State would be odd man out were that last slot to come down to us or a 1 loss USC, Texas or SEC! runner up. The danger is our sos bumping us down from last in (or even the third spot) to first out.

UFM is completely correct in trying to counter that by taking an anyone/anywhere approach to the ooc schedule. Maybe the Big Ten will have extinguished the dumpster fire by then but why take chances?

We are also talking about 2018. That is far enough away that we don't know what type of program TCU will have developed into by then. They are year 1 in the Big XII, 6 more years with the higher budget. Yes, I'd say it qualifies as a marquee game projecting out 6 years. California was slated to be a marquee game and it didn't come to be very relevant... so we don't really know. The TCU game gets tOSU into Texas and DFW market, and pits the Buckeyes against a program from a top conference.

And the Big 10 Pac 12 deal is now off. I won't direct this at you since you aren't Gene... but I wonder what the excuse is now.

Also the SEC is possibly moving to a 9 game conference schedule, but haven't decided one way or the other. So most SEC schools are not looking to add until they know what is going on with that.

On top of the changes in the SEC, the change to a playoff complicates scheduling for the SEC. Do they need to schedule good teams or stick with D2 schools? Is the 8 or 9 game SEC conference schedule strong enough to get teams into the playoff?

If you look at the future SEC ooc schedules, the top teams hardly have anything past 2014.

I think that Gene, and everyone else, knows that, as the B1G stands right now, the B1G schedule isn't strong enough to get teams into the playoff on it's own. I think every Buckeye fan, most SEC and College football fans in general want to see Ohio State play the SEC. I think it is the SEC top teams not Gene keeping it from happening.

My biggest issue with this forum is people who miss obvious points. It wasn't about one game.

I'm not going to bother trying to explain the point though.

Not all Gene's fault

Incorrect. If the SEC 9 game schedule was the issue then UT and UGA would have cancelled. The reality is Gene cancelled on them due to the potential Big 10 9 game schedule. In addition, the UGA AD has publically said he wants OSU back on the schedule.

On another note, the canceled Georgia-Ohio State series may not be dead yet.The reason for canceling it had been that Ohio State didn't have room on its future schedules because of the planned scheduling agreement between the Pac-12 and Big Ten. But that was canceled last week.McGarity said he planned to place a call to Ohio State to renew talks."I may call them on the way home," McGarity said.

They're more likely to develop into a Texas Tech or Baylor. History as shown that most teams that step up into more competitive leagues don't grow to elite status in their new conferences.

This is not a marquee matchup. It's an OK game wrapped up in a publicity stunt.

I mean, hell, look at Miami (FL). They are shadows of their former Big East selves and the ACC isn't exactly known for its football prowess.

Funny side note, I was going to include Va Tech in that example but as it turns out, they only won 3 Big East championships between '91-'03.

Have the Hokies ever not been incredibly overrated? I assumed they were "elite" in the Big East based on their underachieving reputation but I guess not.

Gene has no excuse.

I think we are saying the same thing:

Gene's excuse for canceling Georgia and Tenn = B1G/PAC12 challenge

Gene's possible excuse for not rescheduling = It's the SEC fault. Possible 9 game conference schedule, SEC scheduling D2 teams and the Playoff as reasons why SEC teams are not looking to schedule right now.

We are not saying the same thing. The UGA AD is on record saying he wants OSU back on the schedule. Therefore it is not the fault of the SEC or its 9 game schedule. This is on Gene.
