I'd prefer bottom level BCS schools like Kentucky or UCONN.

There's no benefit whatsoever to playing crappy schools from outside Ohio that aren't in BCS conferences.

Well the game is not till 2016

but Tulsa has been far from "crappy" in recent history, sure they arent upper level, but it could be worse

they've won 10 games 3 times since 2007 and since 2005 theyve won at least 8 games in all years but 1

  1. What's the benefit to playing teams that are better than Tulsa if there's already an Oklahoma on the schedule?
  2. The kind of schools you mentioned don't necessarily want to play Ohio State. What's in it for them? Ohio State isn't going to pay six or seven figures to an SEC or Big East school to come to Columbus. Ohio State isn't going to give them a return trip. Plus, they don't want to get their teeth kicked in.

Vanderbilt would consider dropping Ohio State game

Vanderbilt is scheduled to open the 2013 football season at Ohio State, but athletics director David Williams would consider scrapping that if the SEC asks the Commodores to open with a conference game on national TV.

“I’ll put it this way: I love opening up on Thursday night,” Williams said Friday. “I think there’s some excitement that goes with being the first game of the year. That’s really cool.”

Vandy wants no part of opening at OSU, and is now hoping the SEC will bail them out. Although this part makes no sense:

The Commodores must eliminate one of their five potential 2013 nonconference opponents to another season or drop one of them anyway so they can play eight SEC games.

Hasn't the SEC always played 8 conference games? Why would 2013 be different? Did Vandy agree to another game after the OSU game was scheduled, to give them a built-in excuse for cancelling it?

AP: #OhioState AD says he may stop skedding #MAC teams to bolster strength of sked for new 4-team playoff in FBS.

AP: Gene Smith says, "We'll still play a MAC school on occasion, but not nearly as much as we have in the past." #Buckeyes

AP story upcoming shortly. FBS playoffs start in '14, #Buckeyes locked into skeds thru '17.

The AP story that was promised in the starBUCKS post above.

Ohio State may cut back on MAC foes
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The days when Ohio State regularly entertained a Mid-American Conference school may be coming to an end because of the new FBS playoff system.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said the four-team FBS playoff may mean fewer games against MAC teams.

"We're changing our philosophy because we're obviously going to move into a playoff structure that I don't think all of us really understand yet, how the committee's going to work," Smith said earlier this week. "Many of us are assuming it's going to work similar to the (NCAA tournament) basketball committee, so your non-conference schedule will come into consideration as they evaluate whether or not you're going to be one of those final four teams."

The Buckeyes are scheduled to play MAC members Buffalo in 2013, Kent State in 2014, Northern Illinois in 2015 and Bowling Green in 2016 -- all at Ohio Stadium. Because of the iffy status of the playoffs and the number of Big Ten games Ohio State might play, the schedule is incomplete starting with the 2017 season. The Buckeyes' website only lists two games so far for 2017.

cont...

edit: I am definitely looking forward to what teams they might schedule.

Good to see Ohio State take a strong stance on something for the first time in a while... would never have guessed it would be with regards to scheduling. Really exciting development. As a season ticket holder, I would LOVE to see us play more than 1 BCS team a year.

The quickest way to silence the SEC chants will be to get those programs to play games on BigTen campi and beat them.

I'd like to see an SEC vs BigTen Challenge
There will be a SEC vs Big12 challenge, and the SEC and Big12 champions will meet annually in a bowl game. I doubt I'll see a SEC vs B1G challenge when I'm alive.
