That's a nice B-level series to go with the Oregon games in those years.
Absolutely! I was hoping we'd add a marquee matchup for the TCU series as well! Of course, we can never predict how good these 'B-level series' teams will be at that time right now. So given that we have only 3 OOC games, one BCS level school and one lesser school in addition to another whipping toy will be a norm, hopefully.

Aztec Football to Face Ohio State in 2013

Nov. 2, 2012

SAN DIEGO -

SDSU FOOTBALL FUTURE SCHEDULES

San Diego State director of athletics Jim Sterk announced this morning that the Aztec football team will travel to Columbus, Ohio next season to face Ohio State. The game against the Buckeyes, scheduled for Sept. 7, replaces the contest at Utah State.

"The momentum of qualifying for a record third consecutive bowl game as well as moving into one of the top-five conferences in the country will carry the Aztecs' program into arguably the most exciting year of football in San Diego State history," Sterk said. "It was fortunate to have a game with a high-quality opponent like Ohio State available at this late date."

The opportunity to add the Ohio State game became an option when Utah State initiated discussions about moving the date of next year's game. Instead of delaying the game to a different season, the schools elected to cancel the final game of the series.

Ohio State has scheduled San Diego State for the 2013 season.

“San Diego State has a fine football program and we are happy to be able to add them to our schedule,” said Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith in a release. “We have had an excellent relationship with SDSU over the years with three exciting, competitive games since 2001.”

San Diego State replaces Vanderbilt on Ohio State's schedule after the Commodores backed out of games against both Ohio State and Northwestern earlier this month.

In order to make the game happen, Ohio State had to reschedule games against Buffalo and Florida A&M , however both of those games will still be played in 2013.

Not that I think the ACC is all that on a football field, but I think I would be offended if I were them.

Whether or not San Diego State is in the Big East, no one is going to consider them a BCS team next year. That's a terrible non-conference slate and possibly just as equally bad a schedule in general unless Cal and the Big Ten get their collective stuff together in the next 9-12 months.

Can't really blame them since our SEC opponent backed out

Awful schedule next year

If Cal was as good as they were when we scheduled them you wouldn't be singing this tune. And as Coqui mentioned above, we had little options to us since Vandy chickened out. The latest schedule is due to shit totally out of control...

Yes, this. Same with the game we had out at Washington. Hard to tell how good these teams will be down the road.

No reason for FAMU to be on the schedule

Yep, the four seasons prior to our 2003 meeting with them in The Shoe, they had been 7-5, 11-1 (Rose Bowl champs, finished #3 in both polls), 8-4 (finished #19 in both polls), and 7-6...three respectable seasons with one outstanding season. Who knew that they'd fall into such a blackhole of suckitude in the three years before our 2007 meeting in Seattle (1-10, 2-9, and 5-7). Future OOC opponents will always be a crapshoot...
