With its marquee nonconference games for the 2007-2010 seasons set, Ohio State moved to fill in the rest of the schedules, and as promised, Youngstown State filled two of the blanks.
The home games with Youngstown State to kick off the 2007 and the 2008 seasons will be the Buckeyes’ first against an NCAA Division I-AA opponent.
OSU coach Jim Tressel has said many times that he would like to schedule the school he led to four national titles. With major colleges cleared to play 12-game regular seasons starting this year, athletic director Gene Smith seconded the motion.
"We saw it as an opportunity to keep the money in state while also taking on a good, quality opponent," associate athletic director Steve Snapp said.
He also confirmed OSU has reached an agreement with Oklahoma to play a home-andhome series in 2016 and 2017, though who will play host first hasn’t been settled.
The Buckeyes also have two other first-time opponents: Army, in a home-and-home in 2009 and 2010, and a home game with New Mexico State in 2009. It’s unclear whether the 2010 game at Army will be staged in West Point, N.Y., or perhaps in Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., Snapp said.
The Buckeyes already had marquee games scheduled at Washington next year, homeand-home dates with Southern California in 2008 and 2009, the University of Miami in 2010 and 2011, California in 2012 and 2013, and Virginia Tech in 2014 and 2015.
The Buckeyes will have seven home games each season through at least 2010, Snapp said, though a vacancy in 2010 has yet to be filled.
