FS Bo 'Beaux' Pelini (DC LSU Tigers)

are they talking about the winning days of Tom Osborne and Bob Delaney?

Terry Bowden talking about Nebraska football is appropriately on Yahoo. :wink2:

The coach that won back-to-back National Championships at Nebraska in 1970-71 was the late Bob Devaney.

Pelini strives for balance
BY BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star
Sunday, Jun 15, 2008

As Bo Pelini likes to say, it?s not rocket science here. For someone who?s been playing and coaching football for most of his 40 years, he figures he should have a pretty good handle on the game by now.

Nebraska?s coach expects to work, and plenty hard at that, but not 18 hours a day like some coaches are doing. He hasn?t ever pulled an all-nighter in a coach?s office and he doesn?t expect to start now.

?Just in my estimation, if you?re working that many hours, you?re doing something wrong,? Pelini said. ?When you work you need to be efficient, you need to know what you?re after, you have to be zeroed in. There?s a difference between putting in hours and putting in efficient hours. But everybody has their own styles. There?s a lot of ways to skin a cat.?

Bo Pelini on Nebraska/Ohio State

Bo started off saying that playing at Ohio State was the time of his life and would do it all over again. And he would rather play than coach. The atmosphere at the shoe is always electric and would send chills to his spine every game when he came on the field.

But now many years latter he has said that Nebraska fans have to easily be the best fans in the US they are more passionate, know more about football, and the nicest fans in college football.

Now for comparing the two programs he said if he could do it all over again he would choose to play for Nebraska because just the atmosphere in Lincoln during the off season is almost game time level in Columbus. And just walking out on the field for the first time as head coach during the spring game just about brought tears to his eyes seeing 80+ thousand fans sitting in the stands to watch him.

Then he went on and on talking about the two and Nebraska will always be Nebraska and they are easily one of the best schools of all time. Also said Ohio State is well Ohio State but even if they win 100 straight NC's and Nebraska losses every game Ohio State will still not be on Nebraska level in the top programs of all time. And yes he did say the tradition at both schools was great and all of that but still kept leaning toward Nebraska as the better school of choice.

And before he ended the speech in McCook Nebraska today he even stated that he felt that Tommy Frazier was robbed of the heisman and that Eddie George did no deserve it.

What should we expect him to say? He's the coach of Nebraska, and he's got a lot to do to restore that program, despite whatever he says about where their standing is.

If he were the head coach at Ohio State, he likely wouldn't give a crap about Nebraska. If he were the head coach at Oklahoma, he'd be talking about how bad Nebraska stinks. It's the politics of college football.

I don't know about any other Buckeye fans, but I don't feel any differently about Ohio State because of something Bo Pelini said.

At this point, Pelini's got to go with the school that signs his paychecks. We've been lucky to have mostly homegrown coaches throughout our history. No question of allegiance. I hope Pelini does well at Nebraska. The Big 12 needs another competitive team. Maybe OSU should schedule them for 2020-21.

After having lived in Omaha for 5 years I would agree that the Husker fans are just as passionate as Buckeye fans and in some ways more knowledgeable and respectful of their foe. The comparitive atmosphere between the two during the off-season is about the same (slight edge to OSU as I have never heard of a Husker planet for instance) and the Husker fans always look through rose colored glasses at their boys. While as Buckeye fans we can delve into a state of denial it was during my stay there (1996-2001) virtually non-existent. Probably has changed now that they have landed on hard times.....

In terms of game time atmosphere, it is not even close. TBDBIL alone sways the bar our way, although I did enjoy games at Memorial Stadium the ruckus environment of the 'shoe is missing.......

But I don't blame Pellini in saying what he did...Nebraska is no better or worse than OSU just different and you have to remember his audience.....
I hope "Big Red" has a good season and their coach is there for years to come.......

No backing down: Pelini has no patience for losing

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The Associated Press/Orlin Wagner
Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini speaks Monday during Big 12 Media Days in Kansas City, Mo.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ?
While Bo Pelini offers no predictions about how quickly he might be able to turn Nebraska's football fortunes around, just know that the first-year coach wants to see the Cornhuskers get back on track sooner rather than later.

Asked Monday at the Big 12 Conference's preseason media days if Nebraska's knowledgeable fan base equals greater patience, Pelini cut the question short.

"I don't worry about that," Pelini said. "I'm not a very patient person myself. Just ask the guys that played in that golf tournament with me on Saturday.

"I'm not a real patient guy and I understand. (Fans) have expectations and they want to win, and I want to win. We don't want to wait."

Pelini, who is one of three new Big 12 coaches this year along with Mike Sherman of Texas A&M and Art Briles of Baylor, was the first to be interviewed by print media Monday at the Kansas City Downtown Marriott. Predictably, the prevailing message he conveyed to regional and nation press didn't stray from what Husker fans have been hearing since Pelini was hired by athletics director Tom Osborne to replace Bill Callahan last December.

The focus is not the end product, Pelini said. Create a winning culture of respect and accountability and the positive results are sure to follow.
