FS Bo 'Beaux' Pelini (DC LSU Tigers)

Does Nebraska have something like Nike making Lincoln a destination, though? Oregon didn't just do it with a little investment and the right coaches. They're the Nike school....and kids want to go there. I don't think Nebraska has that same draw.

They have "the good life".

I don't want this to turn into a Chip Kelly/Oregon thread. I was merely using them as an example of a school in a state with a dearth of hs football prospects that is thriving because it has made the right hires with its head coaches.

What does a Chip Kelly do for Nebraska? He wins football games(you can cite any number of reasons for how or why he's successful). If he could do it at Oregon why wouldn't he be able to do it at a school like Nebraska? Heck, he completely turned around a downtrodden NFL franchise. He's not the only example. Rich Rod seems to have gotten it going in Arizona without top 10 classes. TCU is another example of a school getting it done without big recruiting classes.

I wouldn't expect mid-90's Nebraska to return but 4-losses every single year should not be the ceiling.
If TCU can win games, then so can Nebraska. They shouldn't settle.

Because there's another Nike that exists and it resides in Lincoln?

Or a fickle and deep recruiting scene like Cali on their doorstep.
That's been my biggest worry for Nebraska since leaving LHN... significantly reduced exposure in the closest talent pool (Texas). As it is, most of the B1G isn't having much success recruiting the Midwest... just not enough talent to go around.

Oregon is an interesting study in how silly money and sheer opulence can legitimately buy success in college football (as opposed to bagmen), but it's hardly a blueprint for other programs. And certainly not one available to Nebraska. Only other school I could see repeating this kind of thing is Maryland.

Eh, they certainly don't have that same Nike draw but with their tradition, facilities, and tv exposure they should be recruiting much better. That was not Pelini's strong suit. If NU hires someone more in the mold of a James Franklin or Meyer ie restless, intense recruiters, then they should bring in far better classes than what Pelini was pulling. Before that gets misconstrued, I know Urban Meyers don't grow on trees. I'm only referring to that type of work ethic on the recruiting trail.

If I was a Nebraska fan and I saw Kill at Minnesota getting the same results and Anderson doing better at Wisconsin, both schools in B1G country with subpar HS football, then there's no way I could be convinced Pelini is as good as it gets. Throw Dantonio in there as well. MSU competes at a high level without top talent(at least on paper).

With all the BTN money coming in and a new and extremely lucrative TV rights deal in 2016, our programs should be able to spend with anyone.
