FS Bo 'Beaux' Pelini (DC LSU Tigers)

For Nebraska's sake I hope they've already lined up Scott Frost through back channels. That's the only way this makes sense to me.

There are several other B1G programs that would do very well to have Pelini as their head coach.

Because there's another Nike that exists and it resides in Lincoln?

Nebraska's facilities aren't exactly dilapidated. There are plenty of schools with huge boosters that don't do well. Oregon found their niche and built on it but Nike didn't win football games. Great coaches did. You're telling me Chip Kelly takes the Nebraska job and the best they can hope for is 4-loss seasons?

Nothing wrong with the facilities here.

It's all about the lead man here, that's all. Players will come play for a coach that they think will get them where they want to go. Winning and success are contageous.

Chip Kelly isn't going to Nebraska...because there isn't a Nike there.

You know Oregon being a "consistent top 5 team" has a relatively recent occurrence (that also coincided with the collapse of U$C and the rest of the PAC-12) right?

Other than scheme and "recruit coordinating" what does Chip Kelly really change for Nebraska? The reality is they're still going to be the 3rd or 4th best B1G school almost every year and if scUM or Ped State get their acts together, they might be relegated to 5th-7th depending on schedule.

Either you're completely missing the point or avoiding it. Being located in Nebraska isn't an excuse for mediocrity. Oregon has proven, a program with little tradition prior to the mid-90's, that if you invest in a program(which Nebraska obviously does) and make the right coaching hires, you can compete with the blue bloods. You also don't necessarily need top 5 recruiting classes. Oregon's are consistently in the top 15-30 range. Good but not elite. They have an excellent coaching staff to coach them up and develop them. Look where scUM's top 10 classes have gotten them.

Nebraska makes the right hire and they can go back to being a top 10 program.

I don't want this to turn into a Chip Kelly/Oregon thread. I was merely using them as an example of a school in a state with a dearth of hs football prospects that is thriving because it has made the right hires with its head coaches.

What does a Chip Kelly do for Nebraska? He wins football games(you can cite any number of reasons for how or why he's successful). If he could do it at Oregon why wouldn't he be able to do it at a school like Nebraska? Heck, he completely turned around a downtrodden NFL franchise. He's not the only example. Rich Rod seems to have gotten it going in Arizona without top 10 classes. TCU is another example of a school getting it done without big recruiting classes.

I wouldn't expect mid-90's Nebraska to return but 4-losses every single year should not be the ceiling.

Nike money offers more than facilities. Things like $25,000 "scouting reports" and the whispered "possibility" of endorsement deals after playing eligibility is over are available, for example.

Does Nebraska have something like Nike making Lincoln a destination, though? Oregon didn't just do it with a little investment and the right coaches. They're the Nike school....and kids want to go there. I don't think Nebraska has that same draw.

While that advantage is unmatched at any program let alone a struggling program located in the plains, that is not the main driving force behind Oregon's success. They were sexy for decades but landed very few recruits until the scandals caught up with usc. Now if urban Meyer had not been hired and ND had not made the title game, there might be more room for an Oregon comparison. As it stands osu and nd are dominant brands, Sparty and Wisconsin are superior despite their limited tradition and resources, and one of UM / PSU should rise from the ashes soon.
