How the hell was this guy feeding all of them? That had to cost a small fortune.
That first bear looks like he'd make a helluva rug.
so many Columbus folks have complained that they weren't captured...3074326;2016548; said:Killing the animals is unfortunate, but if they were acting crazy like I've heard.. it needed to be done. Tranquilizers are fine from a distance and safety. The officers probably had neither. If Jack Hanna is ok with the killing of these animals, I'm not going to second guess it.

I suppose we should have a hundred tranq guns, and skilled snipers, waiting around for the next outbreak.
not to mention that you would need so much juice in those darts that it would threaten their lives anyway. and what do you do with them afterwards? they aren't fit for zoo nor living at the wilds preserve.
mattynokes;2016795; said:I've followed this story quite a bit and it's not even up for debate. It's sad and tragic, but the officers did the right thing.
I'm sure law enforcement officers don't have tranq rounds laying around in their cruisers that could take down these animals.
So that means waiting for the Zoo or the Wilds to get there, which like joked above, they don't people just waiting around with this equipment.
So not only the drive time, but it'd also take the time to round up the necessary employees and equipment to get there.
At minimum it's probably, what, 1 hour? Yeah, let's let grizzly bears, african lions, and bengal tigers roam free for an hour.
It's easy to be the armchair QB and say deadly force shouldn't have been used, but if any harm or death had been done to any innocent citizen then all of those people wanting the animals to be saved would be signing a different tune.
People want to point the finger and blame someone. It's not the officers.
Most won't want to admit it (probably because he died) but, Mr. Thompson is the responsible one for these animals being shot.
If he didn't want to live anymore, whatever, it's his decision. But he opened the gates that led to the animals being killed.

You want them captured, go on out there and capture them then, you fucking morons. Let me know how it goes...
A young grizzly bear, three leopards and two monkeys rescued this week from a backyard farm are adjusting to their new homes at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
The two monkeys were easily transported from the Muskingum County Animal Farm, but the four larger and more dangerous animals had to be sedated, Doug Warmolts, director of animal care at the zoo, told The Times. All are acclimating to their new diets and recovering nicely, he said.
"They are doing well," he said. "We had a close watch on them to make sure they came out of the anesthesia, but by early evening they were up and moving around." He added: "They are calm. They are not angry or aggressive; they are just being very quiet."
