Re: Should we let Game Day come out for the Texas game? <HR SIZE=1>I can't find a link, but I saw somewhere that Fox has proposed its own "pregame" College Football show. I believe it wold be called "in the game". Take a wild guess where their first on-campus show would be broadcast from.<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START  -->

<!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> That's right, The Ohio State University vs Texas. Look out ESPN, Fox is quickly moving in. First the BCS, now this. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

No ideally,Herbie would stay with Espin, continue his poor analysis and build his new home in Bristol, not Ohio.I'm sick of people giving him a "free pass" because he played for OSU.And people need to stop trying to claim he is "objective" and start listening to what he actually says.

Go back to BN you fool.
Herbie is by far the best there is, it sounds like you need to listen to what he "actually says."

Herbie is the best there is, but there ain't too many people out there that have his job. Who does everyone compare him to, Mark May, Craig James?

Competition is a good thing. Bring it on Fox. Buckeye fans will be happy to see what you have to offer.

Poor analysis? Son, what have you been injecting in to your veins? Herbie provides the best analysis of the bunch. Now, you might argue that that still isn't saying much, considering the competition, but I remind you being the best in your field still makes you the best.

Once again, I feel compelled to say - I don't agree with every analysis Herbstreit gives. I thought his pre-game analysis of NCState v. Ohio State missed the mark badly. I laughed when he said ND was gonna be seriously improved this year. Still, Herbie had his REASONS for making his comments. What's more, he explained his reasoning - briefly, in the time given him (About 30 seconds). I can think of very few... nay.. not one.. other analyst who does so. Most make some grand statement, point to whatever team they are talking about's top playmaker and then say "Joe Blow can't be stopped." That is to say, most, if not all but Kirk, merely hype a player or program and that is the extent of their analysis. They do this to boost ratings for that game. Kirk is guilty of some of that as well, don't get me wrong - comes with the territory of sports broadcasting. No less, when it comes to doing his homework on what he's talking about there are none that come as prepared as Herbstriet.

You talk about this "Free Pass" as if we can't see through your clear homerism. There is a very distinct line between a "free pass" and respecting a guy who gives his best and honest analysis of the sport we all love. If Herbie picked Ohio State all the time, it would be embarrassing. Ohio State doesn't win every game. Kirk's rep is on the line with every pick he makes. When he's on TV he speaks with his mind, not his heart. That is precisely what he should do. I might add, if you ever consider sports betting, you should adopt the SAME friggin policy - bet what the MIND tells you, not what the HEART wants to occur.

It's not wrong to be able to talk badly about a team, or anything, that you love. It's a little thing some people call maturity (Some may even say it's evidence of a good psychological adjustment to reality.)

I think we found out who was giving the death threats. Herbie is not supposed to be a Buckeye on TV giving Buckeye analysis. He's a guy on TV giving college football analysis, that just happens to be a Buckeye. Funny how some people think Herbie is Buckeye homer, and Buckeye fans think he is trying too hard not to be a Buckeye homer. Kirk can't win with all these people. I guess he might as well just quit. Idiot

I think we are going to have to accept that what Herbie said about the offense prior to the michigan game was absolutely true. It was worse than bland. It was horrible to watch. In the first half of the purdue game we had 5 3 and outs in a row. It was sickening. No one can tell me that we dont have the talent on offense to put up the kind of points that USC does or Oklahoma does in a game, every game. He opened up the offense vs michigan and Okie State and look what happened....

That has to be good for the defense also as we can allow them to rest. Can you imagine a defense that isnt worn down at the end of the season? My goodness! Herbie offers a great analysis every week on ESPN and Im proud of his success and I didn't like what he said anymore than anyone else but what he said was completely true.

I agree that Herbie is the best in the business at this point.

I also welcome the prospect of competition to ESPN Gameday.

If Fox is serious about this the best possible opening they could muster would be the OSU vs Texas game at OSU. They'd immediately get the viewership of two of the largest Universities in the country and also in one game tap into the two largest college veiwership TV markets.

If Fox can get this game they have to at least have an adequate performance. If the show is horrible it could possibly kill itself from the tipoff.

As long as Fox doesn't pull Alberts or May, I'm inclined to watch it no matter who they have. It may be smart for Fox to get a similar formula that ESPN has. A total reporter, former coach and former player. It will be hard to match Herbstriet as he is a former player, true reporter and excellent analyst.

Sorry, I'm rambling. I hope Fox does it.

Some even better news would be the Big Ten getting it's own TV deal going with Fox. An alternative pre-game show is still a big step in the right direction, though. Ideally, they'd steal Herbie from ESPN also.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks that Fox will be any better than ESPiN. Has anyone ever watched the crap that they put on Fox?(Simpsons excluded of course) I'm pretty conservative, and I can't stomach the biased Republican orgy that is Fox News. Fox is just as much of a drama whore as ESPiN is. They're just not as big.

This actually has nothing to do with their analysis, but all of their NFL games seem to be much darker than CBS's. When I have CBS and Fox on the split screen, on Sunday, it seems as though Fox is several shades darker.

I fall in the crowd with those who pray Fox doesn't broadcast OSU games. I cannot stand Fox sports broadcasts! The announcers, the way the crowd is mic'ed, the mixing, the score tracker at the top of the screen that takes up 15% of the viewable picture (or that can't be seen at all if you view the game full-screen on a wide-screen HD TV), the sound effects for every thing, the pregame shows, the postgame shows ...

Everything about a Fox sports broadcast sucks ass. I'd rather ESPN broadcast the game and I'll turn the audio down and listen to 1460 instead.
