I notice several of those "spiders" whenever I come to the board and I've wondered when I see that one or more of them are viewing the members list or a particular member if there is anything to be concerned with about what they are gathering. I suppose I'm sounding paranoid but the thought crossed my mind as to what those things are looking for.

They're looking for words they can index the site with, for the sake of ever-increasing search engine accuracy. It's all very benign. They can't get anywhere an unregistered user couldn't, so there's nothing to be concerned about. It happens at every site on the internet, you just get to watch them here.

Thanks for the info Clarity. I'm not as computer literate as you and many of the other posters here at Buckeye Planet. I know just enough to get myself into trouble.

Hey Clarity, I really like the links to the rivals and insiders database you added to the recuiting forums. I tried to give you a little more reputation points for it and got this message:

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Clarity again."

 That's funny! I guess it prevents 2 posters from having a "reputation affair"!

The games that you posted at the top of the forums are neat, but seem very small. By small I mean, I can't read any of the text that accompanies them ... rules, etc. I could do like most gaming freaks do and just jump in and learn by trial and error, but I don't really have that kind of time. Just wondering if that is affecting everyone else as well (small type/image).

Out of curiosity, is that (the notes added to the top of a forum) an "announcement" done through the moderator control panel? Also, is there any need to "Moderate threads, posts, attachments"? I'm guessing the board isn't set up to "cue" threads, posts, and attachments for approval ... at least not at this time ... correct?

lol, yeah, they really thought it through. I like how they implemented it all. I've seen some pretty cool mod/hack ideas to enhance it from within VB's robust add-on development community, I might watch a few of those to see how they come along, and perhaps install one or two.

I'm not personally running into that, I mean the play window is small, but I can read everything more or less. My desktop is set to a very large resolution (1920x1200) though, so I'm used to tiny text. I'll be interested to hear if other people are having the same viewing issue you are. What's your resolution set to?

The games are listed by way of announcements, yes. You or any of the other mods should be able to add/edit/remove announcements in any forums you're a mod for.

Where I have links to theInsiders and Rivals databases are actually new forums, but the message posting aspect is disabled, and the forum link itself turns into a redirect for the page in question -- in this case the direct pages to those databases. I find I reference those a lot, and wanted a convenient way to get to them, I hope others find it useful too.

As far as user and post moderation. We don't currently have any forums that require mod/admin approval before posts hit. Ways we might use that in the future are if we have a Q&A session with a player or coach, or if there's some other 'expert' available who will just answer questions now and again. It's a very easy way the "Ask Duane" forum could have worked (and been manageable) over at Bucknuts. Why it didn't is beyond me.

I upgraded from vB 3.0.0 RC2, to vb 3.0.0 RC3 this morning around 7am ET. This is expected to be the last release candidate before the software goes gold (final release).

ALL previously mentioned bugs and/or quirks should be fixed. I invite (even request) that everyone browse around a bit and look for anything that is still broken.

3yards, the advanced search page should now be almost entirely fixed. A couple of the tables may still leak to the right a little bit, they were unable to fix that as it's an oddity with certain table handling in IE for MacOS. However, the pulldown should be fixed, and based on the image you sent me, that was the biggest deal.

That aside, we should be pretty stable.

I have several hacks/add-ons earmarked that I intend to install, but I won't do these until 3.0.0 is a final release product. Only because the process to upgrade increases exponentially in time consumption and difficulty when you start making modifications to the code. And since I can bearly even explain that adequately, and don't really understand what it means myself, I don't feel properly equipped to pull that off without something bursting into flames. No matter though, we should be out of this final testing process in a week or two, and I'll start adding some fun stuff then.

Stuff like a full integrated chat system, uses existing account information, moderators and admins have full mod abilities within the chat structure, it uses existing system graphics (smilies and such). Looks to be a pretty slick interface. I've also got my eye on some add-ons that speak more to the 'fun' side of things, I'll detail those when and as I add them.

Anyway, looks like the upgrade went without a major hitch, so I'm calling it a night. Or a morning. I'm calling it something.

I upgraded from vB 3.0.0 RC3 to RC4 last night. Went off without a hitch. Also upgraded the Arcade in the process, which fixed a couple minor glitches (well ArtesiaBuckDog thought they were major :roll1:), and added challenge record tracking to user profiles.

RC4 should be the very last 'beta' version of the forum software. Which means we're days or weeks from a stable product. Which also means that a lot of little add-ons and goodies will follow. Once all that's done, I'll be making and posting a somewhat detailed overview of the forum's capacity, and some of the good things you/we can do with it.

Clarity, just curious, but have you noticed that the heading "location" (underneath a poster's moniker, title and avatar) is no longer displayed next to what would be a poster's hometown? The other headings are still there, like "Join Date", "My Team", "Posts", and "Rep". Just wondering if this is a software "glitch" or some change you've made.
