Personally, I think their problems are attributable to a couple things...

1) High coaching turnover
2) High pressure environment for winning

Its hard to say much about them when we couldn't lure a top name coach during our last search. Tressel may have been the only one offered, but I certainly remember all of the "Stoops, Gruden, Belotti, etc" posts on the boards.

I'm surprised that Rodriguez didn't take it. I think it's certainly a step up from WVU.

Well I think the situation also comes down to the strength of the current class. The major pressure will come on the initial hiring and they are expecting immediate results. Meaning that if you can't take this current team, beat your rivals and get to a bowl game in your first two years then odds are you're going to get run out of town.

Not to mention you're now falling behind a recruiting class as other programs are getting commitments from the top athletes and you could find yourself back as far as 3 years before you can get a class of all your recruits in.

It's potentially a step up for Rodriguez, or a step down. If he goes there, takes 2 years winning 6-7 games a year the Alum are gonna start freaking out and the fans as well. Why leave WVU, he has his own class in and they are doing fairly well, sure he may make more money but that's not going to help if he's fired after two years with a huge black mark on his coaching resume.

Mandel points out some problems in the Alabama situation, and a very interesting conflict of interests among the trustees that nixed Jimbo Fisher as head coach for UAB.

I don?t mean to rag on the state of Alabama again -- but it?s just so easy. As I said the day Mike Shula was fired, the Crimson Tide?s storied program is being held back by the incompetent, old-boy network that still calls the shots there. And now, cross-state competitor UAB is being plagued by the same problem.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, San Serif] Alabama's football program is entering its fourth week without a head coach as administrators apparently are content to wait on the conclusion of bowl games and the NFL regular season before resuming the search.

I cannot believe that Alabama is so hard up that they're looking at Nick "the pick" Saban at $40 million.

He sees another opportunity to relieve some gullible people of their wallets. This guy sees the writing on the wall and bail on the dolphins "because he can't handle the truth" being the job, just like he bailed on EVERYONE else for the schekel.

How can U of A (University of Athletics) afford to hire him when Alabama is like the most illiterate State in the Country?

Personally I wouldn't let him coach my tiddly winks team!

I guess that's why we don't get offered like those. He must be good.

I think If Nick Saban accepts this job, then his contract will change the college coaches' contracts forever (i.e. coach JT's new deal after NC). They'll be paid lot more than what they get paid now. some deserving more than others. JT, Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer etc.

My point exactly...these are all institutions of higher learning. Please don't tell me that football makes the schools money because it dosen't except for a few.

But in reality, those few are nothing more than the minor leagues for the NFL.

I love college football, don't hardly watch the pros but aren't we getting out of hand?

Saban to make Alabama decision on Wednesday

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga told reporters on Tuesday that head coach Nick Saban has asked to have until 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday to make a decision on staying with Miami or accepting an offer from Alabama.

A Miami team source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Saban informed the Dolphins' coaching staff earlier Tuesday that he was "struggling with the decision," but the staff got the distinct impression that Saban was likely to take the Alabama job.

Another team source told Mortensen that Huizenga has been in frequent talks with Saban in an effort to keep the coach from accepting the job in Tuscaloosa. Saban was seen leaving the Dolphins' facility at 4:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday. He smiled and waved at reporters but didn't stop to talk.
Huizenga remained optimistic Tuesday that Saban would return to Miami.

Should be interesting to see what he can do. Kinda has the parallels of Pete Carroll going to USC and awaking a sleeping giant. Saban also has quite a big of ties to that area after having coached at LSU.

Me thinks he has them competing for the SEC title in about 2 years.
