We shall see. I hope they play man.while I'm sure NoD has some zone packages in their schemes, they aren't that type of defense.
Changing too much this far into a season can cause significant issues - especially when you're down a couple players like they are.
I wasn't at all. Yes, zone is a more effective D against OSU, and that is why I would expect ND to at least try it.I assume you’re being sarcastic lol.
Everyone says “oh copy Michigan” well you need two stud 1st round DTs and 2 good DEs. If you have those that’s a start. Then you invite the run and hope Ryan Day and Chip Kelly go back to running stretch and inside zone. Then you need to concuss our QB, double JJ, and have us miss 2 chip shot field goals.
Sure give that a try when your defense is entirely the exact opposite. Michigan and Texas slowed us down partly because they play a ton of zone which ND doesn’t do.
They aren’t a strictly man team. I read they play zone around 35% of the time. So it wouldn’t be crazy for them to up it to 50-60%.Especially going from man to zone. Going from zone to man is a much easier adjustment, it just requires talent. Man to zone, from a time to get it installed correctly perspective, is much more difficult because guys have to coordinate among themselves and gel as a unit.
Unless they have been putting in the reps in practice all season, there’s no way to effectively switch to a predominantly zone defense in this amount of time.
The biggest thing for me is Will seeing coverage tendencies before the snap. That probably sounds obvious, but the only time he gets in trouble with is when he stubbornly throws into double-triple coverage. That is where I could see things getting tight with a bad turnover at the wrong time.We shall see. I hope they play man.
If we play our game we’ll hit them with our skill and then late will be ground gameHow about Ohio State just does what Ohio State does? It doesn't have to be ground and pound. That's not really their style.
Focused is fine. Overthinking everything isn't. Just play free and fast. Use your skill position advantages, that are vast, and you will win the National Championship.Day seems to be ultra focused right now, judging by the interviews and press conference. I don't get the same feeling watching Freeman speak. Could be nothing, but I like how Day is acting right now.
As of tomorrow, I will have added in my buffalo dip mix, charred hot wings, guac/chips, and an assortment of libations. I have pictures of all critical memories from the last two titles up across my house. My dog cannot take his OSU scarf off until the deed is done. We must double down.Chex Mix is made. I have done my part for an OSU win.
Well done, good sir!As of tomorrow, I will have added in my buffalo dip mix, charred hot wings, guac/chips, and an assortment of libations. I have pictures of all critical memories from the last two titles up across my house. My dog cannot take his OSU scarf off until the deed is done. We must double down.
Of course that trumps player and coaches performing, but I definitely will have done my part.
Hence the use of the word “predominantly.” Even then, if they were to switch things up that much, they would be losing out on the ability to effectively disguise their looks. Again, not saying that they are going to run man exclusively, but there is a significant difference between running more zone and having a fully installed zone defense. I wouldn’t be surprised, as you point out, they are more zone than normal, but they are not going to get too far away from what got them there in a week’s time to install a different scheme. They aren’t a strictly man team. I read they play zone around 35% of the time. So it wouldn’t be crazy for them to up it to 50-60%.
