Game Thread For the Natty vs ND, “One More, Then Forever”, Jan. 20th, 34-23 Buckeyes!

We have been beat up all year and at no point did we come close to collapsing like was the case against Louisville last year not even NIU. PSU was said to have the best DL in the nation and there were momente in the 2nd half with our backups that we mauled them
Yes, but the OSU OL has learned to work together. They're losing a starter right before the NC
And OSU's DL is much better than in '23 at this point too. The Knowles defense right now is playing the best it ever has at the moment

Penn State doesn’t have the best DL in the country you’re about to play the best. Also you ran for 110 yards vs Penn State that’s not mauling anyone. We went for 170 on them in their house without our left tackle.

You guys find ways to win and can do so in this one too but come on man be realistic. Your OL isn’t even close to last years.

Looks like Xray is a few weeks late.

Bold strategy

please do it, seriously please play man. The main reason why is I think man gives Chip a better vision on how to attack teams. He’ll get JJ one on one vs someone who shouldn’t be covering him and he’ll make them pay.
this years Ohio State DL is muuuuuucchhhhh better than 23 as well.
Only at ND do you lose two high end tackles and get better the next year. Joe Alt and Fisher were given all they can handle by our ends. Well now our guys go against players who aren’t at that level yet.

Every team has injuries. Ohio State has lost a first round left tackle and a 2nd/3rd round center/guard.

Ohio State DOMINATED Ped State's defensive line back in October with a makeshift line that had been together for 3 full practices. They (Ped's DL) are hardly the best in CFB (although very good).

NoD's offensive line isn't on the same level as the one just faced in Texas. The passing game is specifically designed to alleviate the concerns you have with both straight on pass rushes and speed rushes on the edge, but I'm sure you knew that.

Here's a lightning-fast recap of the press conference:
  • On Carnell Tate stepping up in the Cotton Bowl: "You need everybody. ,,, Carnell has played good football for us all year. ... We're gonna need him in this game as well. ... You could see him all season getting better and better."
  • On Ohio State being fresh for the national championship game, strength coach Mickey Marotti: "Can't say enough. In the offseason, we talked a lot about this. ... We knew it was gonna be a long haul. ... Mick, to me, is the best there is in the business."
  • On what has impressed him the most about Will Howard this season: "Leadership. Leadership. Certainly, his performance has been excellent, but it's leadership to me. ... The way that Will can take the team on his shoulders and not only lead the way but pump guys up.
  • Day said relinquishing playcalling to Chip Kelly was "the right thing to do" for Ohio State to have success this season. Day said he's been more involved with game plans and schematics in the playoff than in the regular season. "During the playoffs, I can tell you, full disclosure, I have been very involved with it all. ... But it was the right thing to do. ... We got to be at our best."
  • On Ohio State's offensive line: "It's been a group that has had a lot of different combinations all year. It's become a very resilient group. ... They've got to finish the job. ... Those guys need to have a good week of practice. ... I think Justin and that whole group has stuck together, and because of that, they've become stronger in the back end and that needs to pay off in this game."
  • When asked about the pressure of winning a national title at Ohio State as a season-long favorite, Day said he hasn't given much thought to it. "All that matters is winning this game right now. ... Pressure, whatever you call it, the way you continue to work in those moments is to focus on right now."
  • Day said "there's a reference point" to use against Notre Dame having played the Irish in 2022 and 2023. Day said the Buckeyes didn't have that benefit when facing Tennessee or Texas earlier in the College Football Playoff. He hopes the Buckkeyes can use their familiarity to their advantage in the national championship game.
  • Day said execution will be critical for Ohio State to beat Notre Dame. "How we want this to turn out will be based on our execution."
  • On Luke Montgomery: "Every day in practice, you see a guy who brings it. ... You're feeling him on the field. ... You're seeing him in big moments step up. ... He's gonna need to in this game. ... This will be a big game for him."
  • Day said Ohio State can't leave anything to chance in the national championship game. "You've got to leave no doubt. ... We've got to finish this thing the right way. ... It's gonna be a battle."
  • On Will Howard: "In a short period of time, he's had a huge impact on Ohio State. ... I know he wants to finish this thing the right way. ... He's excited about playing in this one."
Just sayin': Click on the link to see the entire interview.

Feeling good that we have 'leave no doubt' Ryan Day and not 'be in a position to win it in the 4th quarter' Ryan Day.

Boston- I’m sure things also feel different this year because you have a QB who would prefer to run and also your schedule did you no favors this year as well because it was pretty bad outside of AM. You didn’t even get a good USC team who btw put up 35+ and over 500 yards of offense.

We gave up more than 20 twice this season to Oregon (which they shouldn’t have even hit 20 in the rose bowl). Which I’m sorry but you aren’t that on offense not even close.

So the real question is can you hold OSU to 21 or less because that’s what it’s likely going to take.

Implied in the statement is the heads of our coaches, players, staff, and even the fans.
Fans literally don't factor into the equation. We can say whatever, celebrate the Cotton and Rose Bowl wins, whatever, and it doesn't matter a damn.

As for the team, again, out of our control but I kinda doubt some bullshit on a message board is gonna matter much in terms of "getting in their heads"....

This years ND OL is muuuuch better than 23.
Well first off, as a mercenary Buckeye welcome to BP. We enjoy insightful perspectives from other fans but an emphasis on insightful. I am very excited for this game between two historic programs. Personally I would be rooting on for ND if we weren't facing each other, but that's the Irish Catholic in me and I will always be a Buckeye if we happen to match up. So of course Buckeyes all the way for me, but I love banter on the matchups.

To that note, what makes the ND OL "muuuuch" better? You have notable losses there and so have we. I won't recite all the prior posts, but we have lost our LT and C...both Day 1-2 picks. I think the issue is timing though. We have endured those losses over the season, and we have had time to adjust. Adjust we have (Yoda voice) but you guys will have to on the OL. Those are big losses to endure at the end of the year. I wish you full strength and we are in the same boat with injuries, but timing plays to our favor. Your OL recruiting has been good though, so it could even out some. Our DL is the best in the country though, so you have a fight there.

Mostly wanted to welcome you and hope for good talk on the game. Great posts here already, this will be an epic game.
