Game Thread For the Natty vs ND, “One More, Then Forever”, Jan. 20th, 34-23 Buckeyes!

So you’re better now with no Joe Alt and no Blake Fischer? Your center last year was good too and your left tackle is out and your right guard might be too.

I’m sorry but Give me a break that’s absolutely ridiculous to say.
I have to back you up here to the main point. Alt and Fischer were staples, then there are injury issues. Moving on, LT could be a mess and so can the OG position with Spindler possibly out or not 100%.

I don't take any joy in it, I want the best to play. But it's reality and we've had to deal with the same. Maybe the backups step up like we have, so I am not discounting any of the guys stepping in.

I mean......I actually know what makes Monday nights ND OL muuuuuuch better. They're going to be allowed to tackle and undress our DLine.
Well that ain't wrong. Can we petition the refs to actually watch holding on the edge and lose their job if they purposefully miss it? Specifically Sawyer and JT. You are right, the ND OL will just do it like everyone did and hope to not get called...not an indictment, but accountability needs to happen and this is the Natty.

I would be sending personal post cards to the refs telling them to look at that shit. It is obvious. We have guys rushing that are being pulled down, Sawyer is the easiest example. Dear lord, Jack is being tackled. Absolute nonsense. Make that right.

If we get Iggy on a whistle for the same obvious calls, just call it the same on the other end. Easy enough. The refs have to be fair. I am done with this horse hockey.

I know what Hero Kanu's rib cage looks like. Wanna guess how I know?

They’re a very grabby secondary too. If we don’t get a few holding calls in our favor then forget it I give up

Every team has injuries. Ohio State has lost a first round left tackle and a 2nd/3rd round center/guard.

Ohio State DOMINATED Ped State's defensive line back in October with a makeshift line that had been together for 3 full practices. They (Ped's DL) are hardly the best in CFB (although very good).

NoD's offensive line isn't on the same level as the one just faced in Texas. The passing game is specifically designed to alleviate the concerns you have with both straight on pass rushes and speed rushes on the edge, but I'm sure you knew that.
Abdul Carter is the best edge in the country. DDS is top 5-10 end in the country. They are good not great at tackle. Overall they are definitely top 10 in the country, probably top 5. It really hinges on Carter though. He was playing with 1 arm and was still the best defender on the field and ND had to adjust protection toward him. They were able to do that because they aren’t great in the middle.

Sawyer and JTT should be as good as one armed Carter and DDS. Ty and Tyleik are better than Penn states interior and ND will have to play more straight up. And Ohio state has more depth and will rotate so our D line should be fresh at the end of the game compared to Penn state who was gassed in the 4th.

I'm talking completely out of my ass here, but I would say Penn State's DLine would rank 4th out of the last 4 teams we played. Maybe 5th.
Thought about this a lot through the playoffs.

I went based off of how they faired vs our offense

1. TCUN
2. Texas
3. Penn State
4. Oregon
5. Tennessee

Then there’s Nebraska who on the interior was a real problem for us. I don’t even know where ND falls in this conversation. The thing the teams have in common that did well was they had big interiors. That’s the opposite for this ND team which is quite light with size of 265-285-300-250 and backers at 230, 239, and 225. Their back 3rd DT is 278 as well so not much help there.

They’re pretty quick up front but there’s a reason Penn State went for over 200 on the ground. There should be room to run for 32 and 1 which if that happens we’re going to hit something to JJ on play action down the field.

Joel thinks OSU 35-17 and that’s a really good pick I think. I’ve seen a bunch of people in this range.

I just freaking pray we are the aggressive passing team from the first two games this post season and not the dysfunctional team we saw between quarters 2 and 3 in the cotton bowl which is the same offense we saw vs TCUN multiple years, Penn state multiple years, and Nebraska this year.

We’ll know a lot after the first quarter. If we have 120+ yards of offense and maybe 10 points that’s a great sign but if it’s 0-0 and we have 40-50 yards that’s pointing toward a 4th quarter finish.

We cannot go into the 4th with a close game IMO. That’s the game ND will win and I know we won vs them last year like that and beat Texas that way. However, that’s not the situation we want to be in at all.

Thats how you get Cie Grant slinging Dorsey to the ground on 4th down to win as a multiple score underdog.

There is no reason to care about the hype right now. They know ND isn't going to just hand them the NC. This is what they worked for. If you can't self motivate for the NC I don't know what to tell ya

We as fans put too much stock in the narratives. It doesn't matter what the pundits or the fans say, these guys (on both teams) are clearly super motivated. If media talk makes you more or less invested in the seriousness of the game, you probably weren't gonna win anyway.
