Game Thread For the Natty vs ND, “One More, Then Forever”, Jan. 20th, 34-23 Buckeyes!

1970 should not be on those in my opinion.
If it’s good enough to hang in the stadium then it’s good enough for me. Bowl games were a different thing in those days, really thought of as a reward for having a great season. There are lots of teams hanging national championship banners when they lost their bowl game: Texas also hangs a 1970 banner after losing their bowl game.

who knew that Jim Plunkett, Randy Vatahea, and a future NFL defense stud we’re going to show up for a pretty meh Stanford team. Add to it that a linebacker would ruin an interception return with a forward lateral, or that a d-back (Colxie?) would get called for unsports for spinning the ball after an interception return? PAC 10 reffing at its best.

Like Cinci I was never really worried during the game, watching that first drive from ND. There was absolutely no way that was sustainable, like 2 4th downs if I remember correctly. Tons of qb runs, he would be dead by the second half if that continued. Even the comeback, I was pissed that the final wouldn't reflect the game, but there was no way they were winning.

Yeah... I remember the 2014 national championship game against Oregon. Interviews with Fickell (DC at the time) indicated that Oregon's first drive was actually good for Ohio State. I mean, the touchdown wasn't great, but the fact that they took a lot of plays to score. Fickell said that that wasn't going to work for the entire game.
So fast-forward to this national championship, that was still in the back of my mind. It was impressive for Notre Dame to put together an 18-play drive, but I knew that that wasn't going to work all game long. I wasn't worried at that point.

This fan made video is not gonna get nominated for an Oscar anytime soon, but shout out for the effort. While watching, it came to mind how we destroyed four solid quarterbacks in this playoff run. It looked like all four of them played with everything they had. Not one of them had a chance. These might not have been the worst games of their respective careers, but each of them paid the price for stepping out onto the field against the silver bullets. It’s the kind of thought that keeps a scarlet & gray blooded man warm at night through the cold month of February.

:day:

Also, my favorite playoff play is currently the Rose Bowl first quarter touchdown pass to Emeka Egbuka.
•Should Will Howard have even thrown that ball? Doesn’t matter.
•Perfect pass.
•Perfect placement.
•Cornerback so close the ball skips off his wrist so EE can snag it with one hand.
That play was amazing in every aspect. That play wasn’t fair. That play should not have happened. How many seasons go by when that play doesn’t happen for Ohio State? That play told everybody in green and yellow that this is what the Buckeyes are doing this evening, think you can keep up?
What Oregon fan felt they had much of a chance after that play?

My greedy li’l Buckeye heart ate it up with gravy. Nom nom nom nom nom.

Really cool fan made video that was authentic. Honestly I have not really just reflected on the playoff games in sequence or rewatched the games in sequence...I just sort of lived in the moment and sporadically rewatched some of the games. Calendar is clear today, might be a good time for me and my dad to rewatch those. So cool for us to be able to watch that run together, it was just an incredible moment to share together. This team will absolutely go down as legends and they left no doubt on who the best team in the country was.

Currently building a shadow box for this Natty with my dad to go up in my garage. So far I have a couple of Dispatch headline art and a Natty flag, but any recommendations from others on some cool memorabilia are welcome. I saw a pretty cool mini replica of the Natty trophy that could go in the bottom and replica tickets with the scores of each game that I have my eye on, but open to suggestions.
