Define shit behavior. I don’t see it in Herbie. I see it in Des. But beyond that you seem to be suggesting that if your boss was paying you 4 mil, you’d go against his corp guidelines to promote your personal agenda.

It's not that he's not a homer. I don't expect him to be. My problem with him is twofold. First, he occasionally will embrace Ohio State when it's good for his brand as with the crying performance. Usually, however, he will demonize and pile on Ohio State way beyond what might rationally be called for to prove his non-homer credentials. Second, he gets paid to be a double plus good duck quacker for espn's agenda, and that's what he does. Fair enough, but what I can't stomach is at the same time he expects to be viewed as some towering Edward R. Murrow voice of college athletics. Can't have it both ways.

The answer here is actually incredibly simple: it's because of the Inauguration.

I don't know, unless people are major political junkies pretty much everything worth watching was over by game time. Plus the ratings for this inauguration were the lowest in many years.

day is "code switching"... conscious and intentional, or not, i don't know. but it shows a clear and direct influence of tress and urban mentoring him.

Agreed on every point, but especially this part. I have openly called for this scenario for a long time and not that my opinion matters, I just thought it would be the perfect to connect the greats at OSU to get the job done. It really helps to have those guys come back and tell their stories to give you the blueprint. I have lived it in the past and you don't understand the impact until you live it.

Take every ounce of experience and wisdom from those guys in getting to the title...that is exactly what Day did and it was beautiful to watch.

This offseason is going to be horrific. Basking in the glory of a national championship day after day, waking up every morning with a healthy woody, watching the games over and over, wearing championship gear around the office to the horror of TCUN and ND coworkers. How will we ever cope?

I don't think so, or at least in the spirit I meant it. It is more of an attestation of Pay It Forward and Day finding the right recipe. Woody passed along his efforts down the line and we can go through all the great coaches here, but we have a great lineage of coaches that have wanted to help the next guy in line.

All the credit to Day, but listening to good mentors is part of the credit...having coached for many years, if something seemed off I went back to the people that created success before me. Day did an excellent job accepting help from those folks and converting it into success, that is the sign of a great coach. Innovate but do not rely on your own mind.

From my end, I am just happy that UFM and Tress could help. But Day did the fucking bid and won it.

i guess i always assumed that they were all sort of mentoring him all these years… it seems like maybe that wasn’t the case, which is a shame. to have those guys (cooper’s around but he doesn’t count, in my book) around and willing to listen and to share is absolutely priceless.

and only an immature stubborn “i want to do it myself, my way, on my terms…” young buck would turn those offers away. but, i’ve said before that i think day has turned the corner and the hardships and the real adversities have helped him mature and have crystallized his identity as a great teacher and a great coach.

leaders don’t live on secluded islands… at least not the successful ones.

the successful ones are humble enough to know where they could use some help. everyone needs a coach.

this, even if it’s true, takes nothing away from day… if anything, it shows that he is maturing and becoming more confident and let others (who have been there) in and soak up their experience and wisdom.

i’m always surprised how many guys who take over leadership roles turn their noses up at letting the guy who was in the chair before them share their experiences and their methods.

leaders have huge egos. and some can be very fragile, especially if they are young and idealistic. it takes a big man to be open to criticism and advice (from people who care about you).

i was happy to hear day quoting the book “good to great” in one of his post-championship interviews. that’s a very very good book that talks about what are the qualities and characteristics that separate good companies (and leaders) from great ones. and day quoting it means that he is searching and learning and growing…

and that’s the only (primary) necessary ingredient in great leadership in my imo. “good to great” calls that the “hedgehog concept”

Buckeye fans can celebrate with the national champions on Sunday at noon at the Shoe.
Ohio State’s on-campus national championship celebration for the 2024 Ohio State football team will be held Sunday at noon at Ohio Stadium.
Admission and parking for the celebration will both be free. The parking lots surrounding Ohio Stadium as well as St. John Arena and the Schottenstein Center will open at 8 a.m. and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Stadium doors will open at 10:30 a.m. Limited concessions items including water, hot chocolate, coffee and popcorn will be available at stands inside Ohio Stadium.
The championship celebration will be televised from noon to 1 p.m. on Big Ten Network nationally and on 10TV in Columbus. The celebration will also be broadcast live on 97.1 The Fan and on Ohio State Sports Network radio stations throughout the state.
Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork will serve as emcee for the celebration while featured speakers at the event will include Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, Columbus mayor Andrew Ginther, Ohio State president Ted Carter, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and select players.
The Buckeyes won their ninth national championship in program history on Monday night by defeating Notre Dame, 34-23, in the College Football Playoff final.
