Wow, I didn't hear the chants or hear about them. That's pathetic if true.

Monkey noises, especially against Defoe. Too many witnesses (and accounts) for it not to be at least partially true.

Platini of UEFA is too gutless to do anything (remember EURO 2012).

If I had a vote, I'd go with Moussa Sow's brilliant overhead volley against Galatasaray. Not only was it brilliant, but it was during a Fenerbahce-Galatasaray game, which could be one of the worlds most blood curdling rivalries in any sport. Gaston Mealla's Scorpion Kick goal would be a close 2nd.

I'm just catching up to these events, but it sounds like there was some racism and violence going down for Spurs' visit to Lazio for a Europa League fixture. A group of Lazio ultras allegedly attacked a group of Spurs supporters in a pub before the match - a few were injured including a couple people who were stabbed. Sounds like there was another incident of abuse after the match too. All this comes after Lazio was given a slap on the wrist by UEFA after their supporters were abusive during their visit to London in the first leg.

Lazio ultras are notoriously regarded as one of the worlds worst bunch. This problem will never be solved as long as UEFA & FIFA continue to not take a much harder stance. It's really a shame that this is still such a big issue & it seems like it's only becoming worse and worse as time goes on.

I just watched an E60 special on this group of ultras from an Israeli club & it absolutely disgusted me. The things they were making little children chant was appalling. This sport exemplifies everything that is great in the world, while at the same time also showing the absolute worst.

Tito Vilanova suffers parotid gland cancer relapse, Barca reports - ESPNFC

Vilanova is expected to be in the hospital three to four days. Chemotherapy and radiation will follow the hospital visit. The chemotherapy and radiation are expected to last six weeks, the team said.

Cruel blow. Doesn't need to look any farther than his own squad (Eric Abidal) for inspiration. I wonder what this means going into January & the rest of the season once Barcelona come back from the two week break after this weekend. Will the club ask Pep to replace him for the rest of the season ? I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but who knows if he would actually agree to it.

Seeing as how all of the big European leagues are at the winter break, except of course, England, let's see where they currently stand.

La Liga

Currently through 17 of 38 games. Barcelona have a nine point lead over Atletico Madrid & a 13 point lead over Real Madrid in third. Don't know whats more embarrassing for Real Madrid, 13 points down to Barcelona, or seven points down to Atletico Madrid. Either way, I can't see Mourinho staying past this season & wouldn't be all that surprised to see him get the axe before the season ends if they were to suffer some more bad results. Barca's league to lose & at the rate they're playing, I can't see them losing there firm stranglehold. With Malaga sitting in fourth & getting a one-year European competition ban, it really opens that spot up for just about anybody to get a chance at the UCL in the qualifying round. There's currently 10 teams all within nine points of each other, so you're guess is as good as mine as to who could grab that spot. I'll take a guess & just say Valencia gets it, because it's Valencia & they always seem to find a way to make it into the UCL.

Bundesliga

Currently through 17 of 38 games. Bayern Munich have a comfortable nine point lead over Bayer Leverkusen & are looking quite good to regain the Bundesliga crown from Borussia Dortmund. To early to tell who will gain the UCL spots, but I would say that Borussia Dortmund will probably grab one even if they lose Lewandowski in January. Bayer Leverkusen are also in good shape to grab an automatic spot as well. The month layoff could make a big impact, but I can't see anything spectacular happening to see Bayern Munich lose there grip at the top. Schalke will probably do there thing & grab a spot or the qualifying spot like they usually do, but that's just a guess.

Serie A

Currently through 18 of 38 games. Not going to lie, but I haven't watched any Serie A this season due to FSC losing the TV rights. That being said, Juventus hold an eight point lead over Lazio at the top. 2nd place (Lazio) through 6th place (Roma) is only separated by four points & it's made up of the usual suspects (Fiorentina, Inter & Napoli). Good to see Fiorentina back in the mix after a three-season hiatus. Glad to see Inter competing once again after last seasons debacle, despite the fact I absolutely despise them. AC Milan are in 7th & no contender whatsoever after the summer departures of Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva & Antonio Cassano. Juventus will probably retain there Serie A crown as they're the strongest side in Italy & the other big two (Inter & AC Milan) are complete shadows of there former selves from years past. Lazio, Fiorentina, Napoli & Roma are traditionally competitive sides no doubt, but they never seriously contend with the big three in the end. I like the prospects of Lazio, Fiorentina, Inter, Napoli & Roma competing for the two UCL spots (One automatic & one qualifying) til the end as I can't see Juventus slipping up big enough to lose the title. Probably going to be the most competitive league in Europe in terms of number of teams fighting for the top spot & UCL spots when you consider how close all of the teams are in points currently.

Ligue 1

Currently through 19 of 38 games played. PSG are in a three-way tie for 1st place with Lyon & Marseille, but have the tiebreaker advantage on goal differential (+24). Seemingly looks like a three horse race with those clubs. Stade Rennes sit six points back of them & could make things interesting as well as the 5th through 9th place teams that are all within nine points of the top, but it would seem unlikely barring anything spectacular. PSG started the campaign off dreadfully, but have been on a rampage of late winning nine of there last 10 games in all competitions. I would say they're probably the favorites to take the crown given the quality of players in the squad & the fact they finally get Lucas Moura from Sao Paulo after the break in January after purchasing him this summer. Lyon & Marseille both have great shots at the title as well & have traditionally been strong contenders, but PSG have to much firepower & seem to finally be coming together as a team after a plethora of summer additions.

This is all of course just speculation & it's really just guesses with factoring how the season has gone thus far. January changes everything as the transfer market opens back up, but it remains to be seen who will the spenders & who will be the buyers.

Messi wins the 2012 FIFA Ballon d'Or. His fourth straight (2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012). This is becoming a familiar sight to say the least.

2012 FIFPro World XI

Goalkeeper - Iker Casillas

Defenders - Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Dani Alves & Marcelo

Midfielders - Iniesta, Xavi & Xabi Alonso

Forwards - Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo & Radamel Falcao

Hmmm. All La Liga players, huh. Like that's not a joke or anything. I probably would've had RVP in there over Falcao, but I think he's deserving nonetheless. What's even more of a joke is how Dani Alves & Marcelo got in the team. Are they serious ? Marcelo is a bit of a reach, but Dani Alves was absolutely terrible last year. He did literally nothing. Can't believe the players voted those two into the team.

So... pretty interesting first legs in the Capital One Cup semifinals.

Yeah, Chelsea fans are not happy right now, losing to Swansea and QPR at Stamford Bridge and staring at going to Stoke in 2 days. Can't really figure out the strategy of waiting so long to put Demba Ba in unless Benitez really is trying to destroy the team.
