Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

From an academic/research POV, yeah, makes sense. But from a football conference play POV? I want to see Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue, hell even Indiana, before I see Duke, UNC, UVA as anything more than an ooc game. I want to go back and watch a game in Champagne - Urbana, Iowa City, Bloomington, again before driving all day Friday to catch an 11 o'clock kickoff in Chapel Hill.

And, yeah, I know it brings in big money TV markets, but I'm not excited about adding the West Coast to our conference either.

sigh, Old Fart likes some semblance of tradition.

The last time i went to Iowa, we lost to 20 Tight Ends and Bosa was absurdly ejected.

Chapel Hill is closer to me, in the DMV, and is a nice area to visit.
I70 is the fentanyl and human trafficking super highway. Meh.

TO is TO, but for Danny Kanell of all people to say he lacks football IQ is so absurd.

I see littered all over the internet those "SEC SEC SEC" fans crowing about this game and saying it proved the committee right.

Instead I see it as a perfect example of what is wrong with what has happened to College Football.

with all the opt outs and transfers, etc. this wasn't the game we should have gotten in the Orange Bowl.
sure without Travis, FSU likely still loses. Maybe even still gets ape fucked.
but with 20 key players not there, this was just a joke of a game.

Opt out culture, the new portal/transfer rules, and NIL mixed in is turning this one glorious sport into a parody version of the NFL.
I don't even watch real NFL, and I'm not real interested in a spoof of it.

Everyone saying 12 team playoffs will fix it, and it will probably make the opt outs less egregious... but a playoff with so many teams that the regular season, conference championships, rivalry week, etc. stops mattering isn't a net positive for me.

And i know it's only a matter of time before that's 16, 24, 32...

exactly.
that's been my argument since day 1 about this shit.

sure it's easy to say "yeah, but The Game will always matter"
and to us at fans, sure.
but these kids and even the coaches are all hired mercenaries now. There is no lifelong loyalty anymore.

so in that final week when both tOSU and that other team are locks to be in the playoffs, just watch how many guys will rest so their tummy aches can heal for the playoffs.

the moment ANY team in the country can have a fanbase walking out of the Stadium after a loss thinking "no big deal, we're still in the playoffs" you have too many teams in the playoffs.

And i know it's only a matter of time before that's 16, 24, 32...

just wait, if next season plays out similarly to this year and Liberty gets in over OU, LSU, etc..
the howling will start. and only get louder from there.

I know it will never happen because they are cash cows but conference title games need to be eliminated.

Some of these playoff teams will have a chance of playing 16 games or 17 games. Ridiculous.
