Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

off warchant....more to the story.

"sports talk in Gainsville (unfortunately) is claiming that there is a female athlete that is saying that the problem was under reported with regard to the number of players involved and that there was preferential treatment of football players and that she was made to miss her season in its entirity. They also claim that she is "lawyered up"

Sounds like a lot more player interviews to come and at least several guys will be missing their bowl game.

This probably is having an impact on guys like McCray and Wells

Sports talk radio here in Tallahassee is practically buzzing with this story. Well, the radio guys are buzzing anyway. They haven't received any calls on it that I've heard. The rank-and-file down here aren't talking about it, at least not in my presence.

But the word now is that "about half-a-dozen, maybe more" will be suspended for the Bowl Game.

*yikes*

The latest word here is that all of the starters at linebacker will be among those suspended for the Bowl Game due to the academic scandal.

This may or may not be true, but local radio stations are putting enough stock in it that they are reporting it as "what they are hearing".

No denials (or anything else) from the university through "official channels".

which is why FSU recruits are looking at different options. They've known about this for several months as well.

Seriously, I've never seen so many verbaly committed players taking visits like FSU has right now.

It certainly isn't just Wells and McCray looking around.

Rumor: Florida St. football players suspended for Bowl game

This is in regard to this story: 23 Florida State Athletes Are Accused of Cheating - Chronicle.com

Alright, so I am at my college graduation party this weekend and a few of my buddies from Florida State were there. Well, apparently the word around campus is that the 23 players are football players. Just about the entire starting defense along with Drew Weatherford, Xavier Lee, Antone Smith, Greg Carr, etc. are all being connected to this and the Christian Ponder is going to be the starter for their Bowl game.

Gotta think this will affect Keith Wells' decision, right? Any chance they get put on any type of penalty, perhaps losing a few scholarships?

EDIT: Just saw that ESPN is reporting it as the truth.. ESPN - Source: Multiple suspensions likely for Music City Bowl, plus 3 games in 2008 - College Football

this is true...one of my students is leaving for FSU in Jan. He has a full ride at LB and hinted he would have a good chance as a true frosh to play next year...esp. in the early games....apparently the staff at FSU has known this is coming down...i am hearing 3 first games of next year also...

BTW, cheating of ANY kind at my alma mater (as of Saturday), the Univ. of Central Florida, was punishable by dismissal from the school. Also, we had kicked one of the top QBs we have ever had, Ryan Schnieder, off the team for forging a professor's signature on a release form for an away. So, in comparison, we'll see how many laps stadiums these guys have to run before they "understand" the error in their ways.
