Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

...that Delvin Cook's defense team was so top notch, that several weeks after the fact they happened to "find" a witness that never came forward and the police never found that just so happened to confirm cook's side of the events of the evening.

I'm sure it was difficult, but once they word got out that they were offering a pair of FSU season tickets, there were witnesses lined up around the block.

I can't believe (well I can but that's the point) that Jimbo, even if just for PR given the trend of negative news from that program, couldn't see fit to do the bare minimum and suspend the kid for their opener (the juggernaut Texas State).
Who are you to judge??? I think the tight ship Jimbo runs down there pretty much speaks for itself. :so:

What's interesting to me isn't so much the not guilty verdict: Given the pretty high price to the kid of a conviction, some conflicting testimony, the victim not seeming like much of a prize herself, the general tolerance of college students engaging in drunken shenanigans, and yes, the questionable composition of the jury pool, meh. But there's no question from the video that what the kid did was substantially worse than what Carlos Hyde got three games off for, and I can't believe (well I can but that's the point) that Jimbo, even if just for PR given the trend of negative news from that program, couldn't see fit to do the bare minimum and suspend the kid for their opener (the juggernaut Texas State).

Jimbo has always been about flipping off the press, the FSU faculty and the nation at large off and making the statement that he runs the foosball as he sees fit to run the foosball. Whatever half-hearted steps towards accountability being talked about down there are undoubtedly being driven by the President, and I picture Jimbo like Col. Jessup, just grinding his teeth and choking back the urge to tell everyone that he runs his outfit as he sees fit. This was his, "you're god damned right I ordered the code red" moment.

This is how I imagine FSU runs ticket giveaway promotions:

Was there video of this incident? I know their former QB was captured straight up clocking some chick in the jaw. It's Florida State, so it's easy to lose track of which woman abuser we're talking about.

Yep, I believe the term is "gives zero fucks".

Either I am too stupid to work the search function or we really don't have a Jameis Winston thread. No need for anyone to reply to which one it might be.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/jameis-winston-threatens-to-sue-cnn-if-it-airs-‘the-hunting-ground’-documentary/ar-BBngIAH?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=wispr

While most of the film centers on a pair of University of North Carolina students, a section does focus on Winston and the accusation of sexual assault against him in 2013. Neither the Tallahassee Police Department nor Florida State University took any action toward Winston, and several reports said both institutions attempted to hinder the investigation. The alleged victim, Erika Kinsman, speaks publicly about the case for the first time in the documentary. Both Winston and Kinsman are currently suing each other in court.

As you might expect, FSU has also criticized the film, comparing it to the Rolling Stone story on a University of Virginia fraternity rape case that had to be retracted, and asked CNN not to follow through with its broadcast.

The Hunting Ground premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, subsequently receiving a limited theatrical release on Feb. 27, and has already generated controversy for charges of inaccuracy. Slate’s Emily Yoffe questioned the testimony of the victim in one of the cases featured, saying it doesn’t prove what’s alleged in the film. Additionally, The Harvard Crimson said that the documentary misrepresents campus sexual assault statistics, while a clip taken from a prank YouTube video is presented as factual.

CNN: "so you are going to get into a high profile public pissing match with us over this thing? One that could drag out for years and why you may or may not actually win the legal battle, we definitely win the battle of driving eyeballs? Deal."

A small price to pay for a national title...

FSU settles lawsuit with Winston's accuser

FSU agreed to pay Kinsman $950,000 – an amount that includes attorney’s fees – as well as make a five-year commitment to awareness, prevention and training programs. The lump sum is the largest settlement for Title IX claims regarding indifference to a student’s reported sexual assault.

FSU student government requests ban on Native American headdresses at sporting events

If some students have their way, Florida State athletic contests, football in particular, would have a different look to them moving forward.

According to FSView.com, the Florida State student government voted in favor of a resolution April 20 that “requests that the wearing of any Native American headdresses shall no longer be permitted into athletic arenas at FSU.” Those arenas would include, of course, Doak Campbell Stadium, the home of the football Seminoles.

“The 68th Student Senate does not condone the wearing of headdresses because it inaccurately depicts the culture of the Seminole Tribe,” a portion of the resolution read, adding that the Senate” requests inappropriate use of the materials as listed above, constitute a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.”
