Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

Despite FSU objection, Bradenton school wants to keep Seminole logo

BRADENTON - Call this the latest version of the Seminole Wars.

Florida State University wants to put the tomahawk chop on Southeast High School's logo and nickname.

An attorney representing Collegiate Licensing Co. has asked the school to stop using the nicknames
"Seminoles" and "Noles'' and the university's logos such as the Indian head and the spear.

Southeast's athletic teams – including those that have won state titles in football and basketball — have been
known as the Seminoles throughout the school's 51 years.
They've been using images similar to the FSU ones
the last three decades, and no one from Tallahassee ever threw a flaming spear at them.

Thank you, FSU. May you steer more recruits toward Gainesville with your selfish short sightedness. :banger:

Warrick hopes FSU has change of heart - Sports - BradentonHerald.com

The Collegiate Licensing Company, which handles the FSU trademark,
has sent a letter to Southeast demanding it drop its logo and nickname.

Warrick, who has joined the Southeast High coaching staff this season is
scheduled to be inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame on Sept. 3, said he will bring
up the subject at his induction speech and take up the cause for his high school.
"I am a Southeast High Seminole first," Warrick said Thursday before practice.
"The nickname is one of the reasons I chose FSU. We've been the Seminoles for
about 30 years, and I am a Southeast man no matter what."

So FSU is determined to [censored] off the Tampa area and drive more recruits to their rivals, even to the point that star FSU Alums are going to admit that they care more for their high school than FSU at an FSU Hall of Fame Induction. Sweeeet!!

Report: OSU getting transfer cornerback | BuckeyeXtra
Florida State cornerback Dionte Allen is transferring to Ohio State this season, according to OSU receiver Taurian Washington, his former high school teammate.
An Ohio State spokesperson said she could not confirm the transfer, as it has not been finalized.
Allen, from Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Marys, will have one year of eligibility left after sitting out this season. He redshirted in 2007 and has appeared in 14 games, with one start, over the past two seasons.
Coming out of high school, Rivals.com ranked Allen as the No. 5 cornerback nationally, and the No. 40 overall prospect.

ESPN Reporter Paula Lavigne's Phone Number Released By Tallahassee PD Along With FOIA Request On FSU

The police released Lavigne’s request, about whether dozens of FSU players were listed as victims, suspects, witnesses or were a reporting party on incident reports, on Christmas Eve, one of the slowest news days of the year. Lavigne’s contact information wasn’t redacted in the release, which opens her up to harassment by FSU supporters who believe ESPN’s coverage of the university’s athletes is unfair...

The Denouement of the Seminoles

Over the last two seasons, Florida State—to its detractors—has been college football’s unkillable nightmare, similar to the Lakers, Yankees and every de facto sports villain of recent memory. On Thursday night, the Seminoles finally got their comeuppance...

For the record I never hated the Lakers or Yankees because I thought they were in league with their local PD in covering up crimes committed by their players.

Opinions on the verdict aside, Kobe Bryant damn sure had his case prosecuted and stood trial for it.

Something that FSU and PSU fans both fail to grasp is that people pay attention to them out of jealousy the way people stare at horrific car accidents out of jealousy.

"Resentment" is a much more apt term than "jealousy" in that if one has any respect for the concepts of justice and decency, one resents seeing anyone exalted as a champion who flaunts their contempt for those qualities. It offends one's childlike belief in a just world. That is the real motivation behind rejoicing when the Universal Parcel Service finally delivers their comeuppance--it's the relief of feeling confirmation that corruption does not ultimately triumph, that the cosmos is not icily indifferent to injustice.
