Florida LB Alex Anzalone (official thread)

Or maybe Hoke feels he has no real shot at Anzalone and can use this to tell Gedeon, "You're the one we really want. We wouldn't even let Alex visit because you're at the top of our list."
Not saying this is what's happening, just a possibility.

It's that feeling that I've gotten from Hoke so far. I feel like he's settling for B prospects and telling them, "you're all we hope for and more" and getting TSUN out of the running for some of the A prospects. Its not a BAD way to go to ensure you get some talented prospects and maybe he's just hoping for a talent upgrade in general from the RichRod days.

EJ Levenberry also claims Michigan to be his leader right now, so they are in on some 5* talents. However, Hoke's defensive philosophy centers around a very strong defensive line, and I believe they stress instincts and technique more than all-world talent at LB. Given that they took 4 LBs in the last class, I think they're more interested in locking up LBs in the class early, so they can move on to more pressing needs.

Penn State Recruiting: LB Alex Anzalone set to visit this weekend
Mar 8th by Tim TolleyPenn Stat

On Wednesday evening, BlackShoeDiaries.com (specifically, @EpicTripod) reported that Pa. LB Alex Anzalone would be visiting Penn State this weekend. He was originally scheduled to travel to Ann Arbor, but was notified by the UM coaching staff that they no longer have room for additional linebackers in the 2013 class. Shortly after, Alex tweeted ?Well, no Michigan this weekend. Penn State it is. #theirloss?

I was able to get in touch with the Army All-American and ask him a few questions about that and his trip this weekend.

Alex says that he is looking forward to getting ?that feeling? from a school before he commits, but has no intentions of pulling the trigger soon, regardless of what happens this weekend.

There is a thread for that discussion, but this is not it.

Alex Anzalone coming up big

Watch List LB adds weight, makes big plays and now has over 30 offers

WYOMISSING, Pa. -- Bob Wolfrum first realized he had something special in Alex Anzalone early in Anzalone's sophomore year at Wyomissing (Pa.) Area. It doesn't take long for Wolfrum to remember specific examples.

"It was a scrimmage and he happened to be running a sweep and there was nothing there, and I saw him take off and make a play of his own," said Wolfrum, Wyomissing Area's longtime coach.

And Anzalone wasn't done yet.

"We try to play as tough a nonleague schedule as we can, and the first game we played Pottsville," Wolfrum said. "That was a pretty tough team and that was his first high school game, and he was sticking it up in there. He probably made more tackles than anyone else we had."

That was back when he was a 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back. Now a 6-foot-3, 224-pound linebacker on ESPNU's Watch List, Anzalone has 31 offers. He says there is a simple key to his constant improvement.

"Definitely my size," Anzalone said. "I put on, like, 40 pounds from the end of my sophomore year to the start of my junior year. That helped a lot."

Working out six times a week, Anzalone followed a simple motto: You have to create the demand and feed the demand. So he increased his calorie intake, having six meals a day and anywhere from 10 to 12 eggs a day.
