Florida Gators (official thread)

2015.....10-4 won division, lost bowl game
2016......9-4 won division, won bowl game
2017......3-4 fired

I just think you have to give a football coach 4 years so he has his players, etc.

Anyway, if he doesn't get another HC job, he'll make some school a excellent OC/QB coach.

Florida is risking turning their program into an uncontained dumpster fire. If I was a hot young coach I wouldn't touch the Florida job with a 20 ft pole. Win the SEC twice and then get fired for saying stupid shit in a mediocre year? I go somewhere one bad year won't get me fired.

How can it be any worse than it already is... Also he was fired because despite the fact he won, his offense (remember he's an OC guru) sucked as bad as muschamps. Also this is what happens when you piss off the administration. Its Florida, you dont have to travel more than 4 hours to fill your roster with talent that is the envy of practically every in the country. Yes its the SEC, but its the SEC East..

Fortunately for Florida lots of hot young coaches would touch Florida with a 5 year $25M contact. Probably lots of cold old coaches too...

Seriously, I still think Florida is one of the top college coaching positions, maybe just behind the likes of Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, and USC, etc. However, I'd rank it in a group with teams like Florida State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, and Penn State, etc. Definitely ahead of others like Tennessee, Wisconsin, LSU, Nebraska, and Oregon, etc.

They could sink to being Tennessee. And being bad at offense and pissing off the administration doesn't make it a good move. It's a bad move you had to give him more than a year of being mediocre with his record short of going all Petrino or Hugh Freeze in here.

Why are they ahead of LSU exactly this looks like a dumpster fire in the Admin the same way as LSU is.

Well he never won the SEC. The Gators still have a ton of talent (besides QB) and are smack dab in the middle of one of the best states to recruit. He was fired because he never turned the offense around, which he was brought in to do.

They will have no trouble filling the FL job.

The State of Florida has a lot of talent... but competition for that talent is also extreme.

It's not as bad as Texas, but you do have 3 P5 schools with history there. You also have Bama and Georgia on your doorstep. And everyone recruits Florida nationally. It's not like Ohio, which may not have quite as much talent - but isn't nationally mined to the extent of Florida. This is why Louisiana, Ohio, and Georgia are the real sweet spots - 2nd tier States for talent behind the Big 3, but there's only 1 major school in each of them (no offense to GTech). If Kirby Smart puts a fence up around Georgia, they're going to be a serious powerhouse... that's where Richt failed.

Suffice to say, it's not as easy to succeed there as people think. Jimbo Fisher has the hot hand, Miami has the current press - both have more history - and neither Urban nor Spurrier are walking back through that door. They are Tennessee. And firing HCs that are decently successful like this will cool some interest.
Florida's expectations don't jive with reality...

SEC finally realizing almost all their coaches are complete garbage

that’s because they fired all the good ones for not being Nick Saban

fired for being an arrogant asshole to the wrong people.

if you win 6 titles in 9 years, you can do that.
if you just win a shitty division and nothing else, you get fired.

They practically already are Tennessee. It's pretty obvious he's not going to build a championship caliber offense and now that Georgia is done messing around, they're not even winning the worst division anymore. Firing him is absolutely the right move
