Wrong glass, Sir.
As much as it hurt to watch the Buckeyes come up short last night, I still truly believe that it's never been a better time to be a Buckeye.
If you only care about football...
We still have 7 national championships and 7 Heismans
We still have more Outlands, Lombardis, Butkus Awards, Thorpes and so on that I've lost count.
1st team All-Americans? Please, it's somewhere in the 150 range.
We're still 3rd all time for winning percentage and weeks atop the AP poll and are closing the gap on the schools ahead of us.
This was supposed to be a rebuilding year; we were picked to finish 4th--in the Big Ten.
We're still one half of the greatest rivalry in all of sports, and last time I checked we're on a four game winning streak.
If you care about sports other than football...
We're still one of only 3 universities to have won a national championship in football, basketball and baseball.
Ohio State athletes have still won almost a hundred Olympic Medals. If Ohio State were a country, it would rank among the 25 top medal winning countries for both overall medals and gold medals.
The greatest golfer of all time and the greatest Olympian of all time are still Buckeyes.
3 times, Ohio State athletes have won the Sullivan Award as America's top amateur athlete; twice they've been on the cover of Sports Illustrated as Sportsman of the Year.
Ohio State's mens soccer team made the ncaa finals for the first time ever this year.
Ohio State's mens and women's basketball teams are both currently atop the Big Ten standings.
Ohio State's fencing, gymnastics and vollyball teams are all national championship contenders this Winter.
For those that care about more than athletics...
Ohio State, depending on the ranking, is between the 25th and 57th best university in America.
Ohio State's colleges of business, engineering, law, medicine and education all rank among the top 35 in America.
Ohio State's academic departments of political science, history, english, psychology, sociology, philosophy, mathematics, biological sciences, earth sciences, physics, chemistry, statistics and fine arts all rank among the top 35 in America
We have Nobel Prize winning physicist and 23 members of the National Academy of Sciences on faculty.
Ohio State is still one of the 60 members of the Association of American Universities and has been since 1916.
Ohio State undergraduates, in the past year, were awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, a Marshall Scholarship and two Truman Scholarships.
For 2007, Ohio State had 24,000 applications for 6,000 spots in the freshman class.
57% of our freshman graduated in the top tenth of their high school class and 91% in the top quarter. The middle 50% range of their ACT scores was 26-30. 135 were National Merit Scholars. 1 in 20 had been valedictorian of their high school class.
Ohio State still has a 2 billion dollar endowment and is still about to kick off a 2.5 billion dollar campaign.
Ohio State still attracted 652 million dollars in external research funding in 2006 (11th in the nation; 7th among public universities). In 2007, Ohio State still attracted 720 million dollars in external research funding. This translated into 26,000 jobs and 10 billion dollars in total economic impact for the taxpayers of Ohio.
Ohio State still hired back one of the most sought after university presidents in America. In returning to Ohio State, he not only left one of the most prestigious private universities in the country but also took a 400K paycut. No wonder, he's described Ohio State as, "the university of the American dream."
We are THEEE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, and the outcome of a single football game can NEVER change that!
Oh yeah, Johnny Utah still played for The Ohio State Buckeyes...still beat SC in the Rose Bowl...and still took down the Dead Presidents.
