FIFA 12 (official thread)

I played a little last night by starting my player career as a 17 year old striker playing for the The Crew. What I couldn't find was any sort of training that I can do between games. I'd like to be able to do different skills training, and maybe even learn multiple positions. Is that kind of thing even possible?

If you do a career mode with a player, I don't believe there are any training situations. You can only play one position, so choose wisely. Your stats will improve (if you didn't make him a bad ass) since your player is so young through playing games and what not, but you're pretty much as you are once you make the player.

OTOH, you can make a player manager and at least place him at any position in the lineup if you want. Otherwise the position you choose is the position you play.

And onto manager mode which fucking rules. Last year, manager mode sucked flat out. It was only good for making a few transfers and getting a team of stars, winning league trophies yada yada, but this year, oh man, it's so much better. They brought back the youth academy where you can scout players. The transfer window is so much better. You actually get offers from other clubs and they'll continue negotiating with you. The transfer deadline day is another nice touch for realism. I'm having as much fun scouting, setting my XI, negotiating transfers and talking to the press as I have playing.

The game play is definitely different from last year, more realistic. So, that means it will take me even longer to become skilled enough to win frequently. The shooting and passing seem to be dialed back, but the biggest change is the defense. That will take time to get used to.

Overall, the most realistic sports game created. (NFL2k5 arguments can be directed elsewhere.)

I might switch over to player manager. I was really looking forward to making my player better and more diverse, and being able to move to bigger clubs and bigger competitions. Like a real career.

That's why I've been playing FIFA Manager 10 for the past two years. On PC, it's pretty customizable, and I love being able to manage teams, buy and sell players, and be able to manage national teams too.

Yeah, I'd make a P/M, young and on a smaller team, perform well and you'll get offers from other clubs in no time.

I haven't gotten into that, but I've heard a lot of good things. With as difficult as this title is coming out of the box (see BuckNut's above post), I may manage quite a bit.

anyway to protect your dribble? everytime I get near the goal, constantly getting the ball poked away

This year they added "Precision Dribbling" which is supposed to allow you to keep very close control. Press LB when dribbling to activate, you'll take very small controlled dribbles. Press RT without holding the left stick and your player will turn his back to the defender and protect the ball a bit, but move the left stick and you're sprinting so use wisely. By pressing LT while dribbling you can activate the dribble moves but it takes time to get the timing and direction down. Who the hell knows if these will actually work, but sometimes you come out on top.

And professional is pretty difficult this year. This is the most challenging installment I've played so far.

Bucknut24 it's all about practice man...just keep playing and you'll be making moves out of instinct.

LOVING this game...

I'm doing a season with Chelsea for fun, and man why does every club want Lampard? Madrid, United, City, and Arsenal have all offered...he's worth 24 million and I got United to offer 47 million! Ridiculous.

Modric went for a cool 65 million to Arsenal.

OK. I abandoned the player only mode, and started as a player manager for League 2 Cheltenham Town.

I started playing on the lowest skill level, but that got boring, and I wasn't getting any better, because I could run forward and score goals whenever I wanted. Moving up to semi-pro has been a lot of fun, because I have to use a lot more patience and ball-control moves in order to stay in possession, and score a couple of goals per game in league matches. I still haven't been able to score on a cross, and only have one goal off of corner kicks. As soon as I figure out how to do those things better, I'll have to move up another skill level, because it seems like those skills are all that's keeping me from scoring 5+ goals every single game.

Does anyone know if winning the FA Cup gets you into Europa in this game? I know that FIFA Manager allows that, but there are a lot of difference between that game and Career mode in this game.

5 subs on the bench is killing me so far, because reserve players have low morale when there isn't any shot at them getting into a match, even if it's a blow out, and with only five on the bench, I can't waste spots on scrubs. The only way that I've gotten around this, is that as a created player/manager, I'm a better goal keeper than the 40 OVR rating of my backup keeper, so I'm able to have 5 outfield players on my bench, instead of 4 + a backup goalie.

game is slowly pissin me off

Half my passes don't go to the correct player...can't get any push on offense, it seems the AI are a bunch of dumbfucks, I don't how many times there was a chance for a goal after a rebound but the nearest player was about 50 yds away, i'm seem to always be in 2v4 situations on offense (and after waiting, not just initial rush)

I can't dribble around any player, it's always getting poked away, AI are dumbfucks
