I know you don't mention play-calling OWUBuckeye so this doesn't pertain to your post but I to type this anyway: Anyone who harps on the "conservative" play-calling from last night was watching a different Fiesta Bowl. There was maybe one series in the 3rd quarter that JT/Bollman fell back into their usual tenancies but every other series, at least what I could tell from my untrained eye, there was some kind of wrinkle the Bucks had not shown all year. I would think having two QB's on the field at the same time is hardly conservative, even if one was a decoy for all but one play.

I thought the line played well above where they had played for most of the season. Yes, they did have a few penalties but so did Texas's line... good defenses will cause pre-snap penalties to occasionally happen, especially if the defensive line is getting good pressure.

Man, that was a game last night... that is how college football should be played.

I agree. To me last night wasn't about play calling, it was the execution. But that is what frightened me...how is it that our experienced OL can't execute and looks mediocre in pass pro (albeit very solid in run blocking)?

I don't get it...the groceries are there and we have expert chefs in the kitchen, but the food tastes like mule piss at times.

because there are two teams on the field, and I'd give the edge in talent and experience to the burnt orange in that matchup.

dang, this one hurts a bit, but i'm proud of the team. they could have laid down, but they fought back and had a chance. wish we hadn't left those 5 points out there on the field though...

We beat ourselves as much as anything - especially in the first half.
False start down by the goal line probably cost 4 points, and the pass interference in the third quarter cost us 7 points for sure, and the continuing drive pooped out the D so much that it made their next TD drive much more possible than it would have been.
Things just add up in a football game or any sporting competition, and we were a couple of plays away from being the ones celebrating.

And whatever happened to getting your head in front of the ballcarrier?

Yep... to discredit the talent Texas has, especially on the defensive line, is doing them a disservice.

We've seen Ohio State overwhelm many teams with their talent in the past and last night we saw the talent on both teams bend the game to their advantage. Unfortunately Texas had one more in them at the end of the game

I disagree. Though there are some areas in which Texas held the advantage - defensive line, receiver, and QB - I think tOSU had superior talent in the defensive backfield, at running back, and at linebacker. O-lines I'd rate about equal, if not favoring the Buckeyes.

The Michigan program is in such disarray right now that what else do they have to talk about?

I suppose they could talk about the fact that they have at least three more years of losses to their rival.:biggrin:

Yep. Went from 3rd and 2 to 3rd and 7, which is a huge difference when you've got a bruiser like Beanie in the backfield that is made for situations like 3rd and 2.

Stability.

Injuries along the OL, injuries to the star RB, injuries to the WR corp, and a QB switch can do that to a team.

Did you ever think to yourself while watching the 2004 team struggle that they looked like a squad with THREE first round picks at WR, a Heisman winning QB on the roster, and FOUR draft-worthy players on the starting OL, one even being a first rounder?

We're a team in transition; there's bound to be some growing pains.

we left a lot on the field. the penalties were only part of the story. i know i have said it before but a missed fg, 2 missed fumbles, multiple missed int's, 2 missed 2pt conversions. our boys outplayed texas last night. but sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way. last night, texas got all the bounces. just look at mccoy's fumble. my god how far did that damn ball travel to get out of bounds? freeman missed recovering by a step. same as the fumble in the first quarter. 2 feet away from the sidelines and thats our ball. you can control penalties. you can control execution. but sometimes that damn ball just won't cooperate. last night it just didn't like us.

the entire season with a true freshman center? a true freshman qb that all but negated the ability to audible like we likely would have with a second year senior? a first year starter at right tackle? a senior guard that was injured in the 3rd game? 3 guards pulling plug n play duty where ever they were needed at the time?

could just be me. but i think people are far too hard on the oline. they dealt with a lot of adversity this year.
