if there is one thing that I could point to as the most impressive thing about this texas team it would have to be their ability to sustain drives and pick up third downs. Colt has set the bar so high that there are actually people in this town now that seem to be upset when he "only" completes 77% of his passes.

I am really looking forward to seeing how the horns respond to playing a very physical defense. Have they truely become the lunchpail longhorns like everyone wants to believe?

I've watched probably 5 or so Texas games this year and that was the thing that stuck out to me as well. What is really impressive about Texas is McCoy's ability to throw the ball in tight tigh windows. Shipley reminds me so much of Gonzo from 06' for us and if i'm OSU I want Jenkins lined up on #8 as much as possible. Also how come that Cody Johnson kid hasn't gotten the ball more? I was really impressed with the way he ran against Texas A&M.

The first thing I heard when I turned on the radio after the bowl selection show was some espin tool saying something about OSU vs Texas and how "we all now how bad OSU plays in BCS games". My god will we never live down the last two NC games; the last time I checked we were 4-2 in BCS games but nobody remembers the 4 :(. While a SEC opponent would have helped our "reputation" perhaps more, I hope the Texas game is not a lose-lose situation. Beat a very very good Longhorn team and we will probably hear that we beat a team dissapointed at not going to the Big 12/NC championship game. Lose to the arguably #1 or 2 team in the country and the hate tOSU talk will continue. Long, time consuming drives that keep Colt off the field and our defense fresh are key along with not settling for field goals like tress is want to do. :oh:

Our D-line has made vast improvement since the USC game. If we played USC again, I'm sure Sanchez wouldn't go the entire game untouched. Also, USC has some unique talents, exhibit A: Havili on the wheel route. The big difference between USC and Texas is that USC will set up the run, and then sting you over the top. I'm not sure Texas has that ability.

Florida in '06 basically used Tebow as a direct snap running back against us.

I just remember the last time the Buckeyes were in the Fiesta Bowl (not BCS Title Game):

- Jim Tressel was so loose before the kickoff he gave a tie pin to Jack Arute.
- Brent Musberger was calling touchdown when Ted Ginn was at the 40 and still had to weave through traffic.
- "Schematic Advantage" gambled on a fourth down and lost.
- Laura Quinn was on the TV every five seconds.

I hope the Buckeyes come out with that "ball to the wall" attitude against the Longhorns. Keep thinking about Terrelle Pryor and Beanie in the heat on a fast track.

A HEALTHY Beanie, at that.

I believe Beanie, after having a long discussion with his beard and family, has made up his mind whether or not to return next year....imo, he comes out healthy, and ready to make Buckeye fans remember him. People are going to remember the last time Beanie suited up for the Buckeyes. Send this class out with a bang.

I'm fucking pumped for this game, and I'm pretty fucking pumped for this thread, especially now that 'eerhorn, and HL are back. Now, if we could only find xray...epic thread.

Couple of random thoughts.

1. Texas has faced two good running teams this year: Okie State and OU. OU was held to about 40 rushing yards, Okie State on the other hand ran the ball very well. I wondered aloud why Gundy got cute and quit running the ball. Kendall Hunter averaged about 9 ypc against us, and we really struggled with their stretch play to the outside. For what it's worth, I think Okie State can run on anybody. Not so with OU, and I think UF will shut it down again in the BCS CG.

2. Speaking of Hunter, he's the best RB we've faced all year. Guy's awesome. He's a little shiftier than Beanie but won't break as many tackles. So I guess that means I think Beanie will have some success.

3. Texas running backs. It's strange when your QB is your leading rusher with just 600 yards, but there's a reason for that. As mentioned above, Cody Johnson has been a nice surprise, but he's not the best fit for a running game that gets most of its yards from zone plays from the gun and the occasional counter. He has to split carries with three other very capable (just not great) running backs. The general consensus (not that I agree with it) is that Fozzy Whittaker is the best fit and gives us the best chance for explosive plays, though he's only really had two good games all year. Chris Ogbonnaya, another "starter", is actually third on the team in receiving. The 4 of them have combined for 1300 yards and 20 TD's. Not too bad.

4. We have no tight end. Seriously. Greg Smith will occasionally come in for the 4th WR, but he's essentially an extra tackle. Absolutely no threat at all to catch a pass. Blaine Irby was, but he's been out all season.

5. Defensive weakness = two freshmen safeties, but they've both done an awesome job this year given the circumstances aside from the obvious couple of plays that ESPN likes to keep showing over and over again.

6. For a change, our linebackers do not suck this year.

Thanks for the input EH. I'm looking forward to this game for many reasons. I guess given your self proclaimed biggest defensive weakness of freshman safeties, how much TP progresses in the passing game over this break will be key. Given past precedence in this area, I like his chances of making serious strides. That being said, I am hoping our defense can strap it up and be prepared for a tough test.
