Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

You know I believe right now is the healthiest we've been all year and also Prior has had some solid time to practice before this game. I really have a good feeling about this game tonight. The great senior class will want to end on a high note and among other things I'm starting to think the Big 12 is overrated. Ole Miss beat Texas Tech which granted they beat Florida as well but I believe Florida just dropped an egg that game. My point is that team beat Texas Tech who beat Texas. Granted you could get into that game and say Texas beat Oklahoma. I know Tressel has the team ready and I think that extra practice may really have helped Prior. One can only hope, GO BUCKEYES!!!!!

There is a key to this.....Texas loves to run WR screens and outs/hitchs/slants to get their playmakers the ball. The key here will be to tackle in space, because God knows the corners won't be up tight against the receivers tonight.

Another key will be to string out plays like screens and quick hitches so the safeties and LBs can catch up and tackle.

I like our chances in those situations. All of our DBs can tackle. We'll probably run a lot of nickel, and both Hines and Moeller have shown the ability to get to the ball fast. I expect the 'Horns to move the ball a little too easily in the 1st Qtr, while the D lets the plays come to them. Then around the middle of the 2nd, our D tends to make quicker reads, and those 5-7 yd gains become 1-2 yd gains. It's a pattern I've noticed with this defensive core (in the games they win, anyway). It played out like that in the 06 game, when Young and Charles looked unstoppable early, but could only hover around the LOS for the rest of the game. Much will depend on UT getting blockers on our LBs on the screen and option plays. There will be some pressure on our young DEs to keep contain, especially with McCoy's escapability. I'm going to try to stay composed during the early going, but I think as the game goes on, we'll see the Silver Bullets flying around and making plays. Man, I need a drink! Get this shit started already!

GO BUCKEYES!!!!

Thank goodness kickoff isn't until 7:20pm EST! I have to drop my kid off at bball practice at 7. Plenty of time to make it back so as to not miss LT go all Teddy Ginn-like on the Texas special teams! That would be a nice time for his first college KO return for a TD right? :)

Nervous excitement going on here.

Go Bucks!

A little over 2 hours. Time is going slow. Going to turn on some Buckeye tunes and play video games to pass the time. :)

I still don't know what to think about the game. No predictions or breakdowns out of me. Anything could happen. Neither of these teams have taken the field in a month. We could see anything.

I'm simply just excited, gonna enjoy seeing the Buckeyes. Hopefully they play hard and represent themselves well. Go Bucks!
