Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

The early line on the BCS championship game is Florida -3 O/U 72.

I'd say that leads us to somewhere in the Texas -10.5 O/U 55 range. I know people would make Texas a 2 TD favorite but Vegas still remembers one of thier biggest losing days in history with the Bucks/Miami also in the Fiesta Bowl 2002. If it goes to 11 or higher I'm taking out a loan.

O/U on our game is 53.5

Yes, OSU has an above average secondary, but if McCoy has time...no meaningful pressure...that could spell a long day for the OSU D.

To our secondary's defense I would say we're a little better than "above average". We got three #1 Db's, with one about to go in the top 5 of the NFL draft next year. Also safties built for coverage as well so this should atleast help the defensive line. You're right though our defensive line has to get some sort of pressure though. I look for a lot of Williams/Moeller coming hard off the edge to create this pressure.

I've been pretty happy with the defensive front pressure over the last few games. Abdallah really found his game after the midpoint of the season. The return of Larimore adds a lot to the DT position. Gibson and Nate Williams are dangerous on the edges. The D-line is much improved since the first few games. Also, in the last few games of the season, Heacock seemed to hit his stride calling effective blitz packages. Hines and Moeller, as well as Jenkins or another DB can be effective from the outside. Also, there has been some success blitzing a two LB or LB/DE combo from the same side. Even though UT has a quality O-line, I don't think we'll see a repeat of the USC game, with the QB reading Tolstoy in the pocket. We should get pressure on McCoy, but the question is whether that will result in sacks or forced throws, rather than QB scrambles for big yards. I think any of our LBs can spy on McCoy. It could very well be that McCoy makes us pay with his arm and his feet, but I don't think it will be due to lack of pressure by the front 7.

Great post! Pretty much sums everything up, which only leaves it up to execution.

Peace.

That's not fair. He can't grow a beard yet.

Balderdash. If he can't grow a beard by now, he never will.

*Greg Oden had a beard when he was born.

*Buckyle had a beard in 2nd grade, and was promoted to junior high.

As you can see, not growing a beard is a sign of weakness. BP is smelling blood...

speaking of beards, lets just cut the suspense and add up the total number of players on each team who have beards and figure out who the winner will be on Jan. 5th, players that grow beards between now and then will be added to the tally

I feel it is a major weakness of both teams that McCoy and Pryor are both unable to grow beards at this point in their careers, but I feel that if they were forced to, Pryor's beard would definitely be more impressive than McCoy's, advantage OSU Q.E.D.

Okay, so how does the tiebreaker go if both have beards?

Colt will probably never be able to grow one. And that's not surprising since he's never had a drop of booze in his life and he still drinks 3 glasses of milk everyday.

In the event the beard tally is even, we will use "eenie meenie miney moe" to determine winner...unless it's Beanies beard.

Beanies beard > all other beards
