Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

Similar thoughts here--Texas stole that one from us in '05 and they stole another one last night. The games were eerily similar in that just when we had them on the ropes, they march down the field and get in the end zone with very little time on the clock. Credit them for making plays when the game was on the line, but they also should feel pretty lucky to have escaped our little three game series with a 2-1 record.

There was nothing lucky about that last drive. They made plays on offense and we did not make plays on defense. Was it lucky that their receivers were open? Was it lucky we could not tackle?

I meant that they were lucky to come out of last night's game with a win. No disrespect to Texas, but if you've got 2:00 to go, you need a TD, and you're starting from your own 21 yard line, you've really put yourself behind the eight-ball. I would doubt that many teams facing such circumstances come away victors. In that respect, UT was lucky to win last night.

I just feel terrible for our defense, especially the seniors. They played their guts out and kept one of the best offenses in the nation in check all night for the most part, only to give up that TD at the end. Heck of a way to end it. Great read by TX, but I can't believe we were in that type of defense with only what 20 seconds left? Have to keep the play in front of you. Anderson will be thinking about that last tackle attempt for a long time.

Losing close ones is hard to swallow. I feel for our guys, but it was a good showing...and a very physical, competitive game. Hopefully we proved a little bit about our program last night. The guys showed up to play big time.

Going forward, I love TP. But I think it showed last night that he has a lot of things to work on in the passing game. With his attitude, I'm sure he'll work his butt off in the off season to be a much more complete player. Dude is one heck of athlete. I think he could probably play about anywhere on the field!

Alright, done with my ramblings.

Good game Bucks...we're proud of your effort out there! Hold your heads high!

ESPN can get off the Texas dick. I don't see how you can put Texas into the Nat'l Champ. mix. Sure they are a good team, but after last night I don't think they deserve it. Buckeyes, you played your heart out, and you guys had 10x's more heart during that game, we just gave up 1 play that killed us. Can't wait until next year!! GO BUCKS and thank you seniors!!

So, what is the over under on the amount of dumbasses that call in to radio sports talk shows in Columbus tomorrow demanding JT be fired?

I don't hear JT being threatened so much as I hear people calling for Bollman's head. That list includes Earl Bruce (after the Penn State game he chewed on Bollman's ass for a good 45 minutes).

When you move the ball as much as the Buck's did for the first half of the game and all you have to show for it is 6 points you have to begin to wonder when this offense is going to grow up.

The inability of the offense to stay on the field in the 3rd quarter meant the defense was on the field and that meant that the energy the defense needed to stop that final drive had been spent earlier.

I disagree with you. Lucky is when the other team fumbles the ball with no one hitting the runner. Lucky is when the other team drops a sure touchdown that could win the game with no seconds on the clock. Lucky is when a tipped ball that is going to hit the ground gets kicked up into the air and into the hands of your player for a touchdown. Lucky is scoring a touchdown on a fifth down. Are you saying that any scoring drive with less than two minutes left in the game that seals the win is lucky? "I would doubt that many teams facing such circumstances come away victors." That just means Texas is a good football team.

I'm still pissed about that and second FG we settled for. We are in the redzone, about to get a first down and score......we come out of a timeout and what do we do?? False <censored>ing Start. Killed the drive, settled for another FG. #%$^#!$%

No, as I said before, I am saying that any team needing to drive 79 yards to score a TD with 2:00 left in a game and only two timeouts should consider themselves lucky to come away with a win. The odds are stacked against a team at that point, you have to admit that. So when very few teams come away from that situation with a win, I think the ones that do should consider themselves lucky.

Maybe what you're both saying is that luck favors the prepared. McCoy and the 'horns were prepared and they performed when they had to. Good things happen when you're prepared to make them happen.

There are a lot of teams that could not put together a 79 yard scoring drive with 2:00 left in the game to win. Are they all unlucky or just bad.

"The odds are stacked against a team at that point, you have to admit that." I agree. So by that logic every underdog that wins is lucky to win? It is not that they overcame the odds. It is not that they found a way to win. It is not that the coaches were able to get the players to play to the best of their abilities. They were just lucky. It is not all the hard work they put in. It is not the two-a-days during the summer. It is not all the hours of watching films. It is just luck.

In life, you make your own luck.
