Favorite TV Theme Songs

that's right. i was thinking of the hugely popular the art of being nick, which was based on nick moore, the boyfriend of mallory.

yo, mallory.

Oh man, I remember that show. :sick1:

Mrs. Garrett was Mr. Drummond's maid on Diff'rent Strokes for a while. That was another one of my favorite shows. I think I watched too much TV as a kid.

other than the theme song to the greatest american hero, is there another theme song that became a major hit on the charts? i'm not talking about songs that were hits before they became theme songs.

Here's a partial list from a side bar to this Newsweek article.

The era of great TV theme songs seems to be over. Today's shows jump into the action so viewers don't have time to channel-surf. Some ditties that made Billboard's "Hot 100" list and their top chart positions:
'Welcome Back, Kotter', John Sebastian, 1976; NO. 1
'Hawaii Five-O', The Ventures, 1969; NO. 4
'I'll Be There For You' ('Friends'), The Rembrandts, 1995; NO. 17
'Making Our Dreams Come True' ('Laverne & Shirley'), Cyndi Grecco, 1976; NO. 25
'Those Were The Days' ('All In The Family'), Carroll O'connor And Jean Stapleton, 1971; NO. 43
'WKRP In Cincinnati', Steven Carlisle, 1981; NO. 65
'Where Everybody Knows Your Name' ('Cheers'), Gary Portnoy And Judy Hart Angelo, 1983; NO. 83

Obviously not a complete list - Greatest American Hero hit #2 in 1981, and the themes from Miami Vice, S.W.A.T., and The Heights all hit #1, according to this article.

And certainly some of these may have been hits before the shows, but I'm not sure.

my favorite was greatest american hero. oh, and i really liked the theme song to the smurfs. i know it wasnt a sitcom, but i really liked gargamels little part. it was kinda like a rap.:tongue2:

Secret Agent Man, Hawaii 5-0, and Peter Gunn were all very good songs.

Mary Tyler Moore, anybody? "Who can turn the world on with her smile?"

And Petticoat Junction had a mediocre song, but when I saw those petticoats flung over the top of the water tower, indicating naked girls inside, that was pretty hot stuff in the 60's!

The Munsters and The Adams Family had great theme songs.

The one that sticks in my head most is Law & Order, because my wife & I are L&O rerun junkies- when there's nothing else good on, that's what we watch.

But My favorite would have to be WKRP in Cincinnati.............."As God as My Witness I thought turkeys could fly"
