Favorite song by a female singer/band

The next Mrs. Rugby likes The Pretenders' "Night in my Veins" and I like the mood that puts her in.

My girls like Garbage's "I'm Only Happy When it Rains" and Sara MacLachlan's "Your Love".

I like Sade's "Your Love is King" (the all-time best sex music) and Norah Jones' "Come Away with Me".

One chip makes you larger,
aaaannndd... one chip makes you small,
But the Ones that Mother Gives you don't do anything at all

Jefferson Airplane is good stuff, but I wouldn't rate them among my absolute favorites. Same for the Eurythmics.

I can't name a favorite female performance, but in a pinch I'll go with Tori Amos, followed by Fiona Apple. Drill and Hammerbox are up there among my favorites for female fronted rock bands.

Sinead O'Connor-All of "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got"
Cowboy Junkies-Sweet Jane
Supremes-most of their hits
Macy Gray-I Try
L7-Shit List
Mazzy Star-Fade Into You
En Vogue-Don't Let Go
The chick who sings the vocals at the end of Gladiator, when he is going to heaven or whatever the Romans called it, I think she was in a group called Dead Can Dance, or something like that. I need to check it out on itunes.

Good stuff there. I forgot Mazzy Star...

Dead Can Dance is great. Toward the Within is a fantastic album. The chick is Lisa Gerrard.

Some good picks there, Nightmare. I love Ella Fitzgerald. Also love Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn and especially Nina Simone.

I also have to second the votes for Tori Amos and Paula Cole.

I've been on quite a kick of female singers and female-led bands lately. Some have been mentioned so far, others haven't, but I really like Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennitt, Indigo Girls, Julianna Hatfield and bands like The Cardigans, Garbage and Portishead, among many, many others.

Still have to go with Aimee Mann as my recent favorite, though.

The Cardigans-that singer is smokin' hot! They haven't done anything lately.
I like Aimee Mann's vocal turn on "Time Stands Still"-my favorite Rush song.
