Favorite Place to get a Burger?

Have any of you in this thread ever eat at "Whataburger" They have one, here in Jacksonville but maybe they are not
popular up north or in the Columbus area. Just checking......

I ate there a few times when I lived in Houston. Pretty good fast food burger. The company started in Texas and has spread throughout the south. No restaurants near Columbus.

I'm a Five Guys over In&Out. Though both are good. I enjoy Smash Burger about as equally as Five Guys. The Carl's Jr. Thickburger is a step below, but I enjoy their new bun.

Really, around here (OKC, but I'm sure most of you won't make it out here) S&B's is a fantastic place that has all kinds of creative outstanding burgers. My favorite.

Just found this thread...the best I have had is at Burger Bar in Las Vegas. Get a medium-rare Angus with jalapeno bacon and Gouda cheese...amazing. The best regularly accessible burger to me is 5 Guys by a longshot and you also have the great cajun fries. Yes, it is very expensive but it is very worth it.

In N' Out is good for the price I guess but is vastly overrated to me. When I want to save money and I am on vacation, I eat it over other fast food places. As jwins said, it is great fastfood...but everyone tries to compare it to gourmet burgers and it isn't the same playing field.

My personal favorite - Hopdoddy's in Austin, Texas. Can't put into words how awesome their burgers are. They always have a pretty good line when ordering, so being the genius's they are, they have drop dead gorgeous females (Texas undergrads) take orders and serve you beer while you wait. It's just a good 'ol fashion Texas angus beef burger (they do offer different meat choices), but cooked to perfection w/a toasted bun. I had the 'El Diablo' - pepper jack, caramelized onions, habanero, Roja salsa - unreal. I could eat it 3 times a day it's that good. If you're in Austin looking for good food, this is my #1 recommendation for a good red-blooded American meal.

I didn't read through everything, but a vote for Johnnies Tavern on Trabue.. Thurman's of course & it so happened that tonight I tried five guys for the second time in my life and it was the second time the service was terrible and the order was screwed up.

After trying In-n-Out Burger back in the fall, I'll place myself firmly in the Five Guys camp.

re: Smashburger... a proper burger should not be pressed or smashed into the grill.

Went to Terry's Turf Club again last weekend. They do it up right.

I haven't read all thirteen pages. Someone may have said this already. Worse, the place I'm going to talk about is currently shut down for renovations and when they relaunch it will be with a new menu and (I believe) this burger will be gone.

There's a place in Columbus (down on N. High St./Short North) called Bodega. It's more bar than restaurant, and I'm told it has a bit of a hipster crowd, but they have a bad ass in the kitchen named Marcus Meacham. He was given creative reign at Bodega, and one of the things he rolled out was the Bombay burger.

Their old menu reads as follows:
A big juicy burger, piled high with roasted red peppers, jalapenos, sharp white cheddar, red onions and fresh cilantro sprigs.

What that doesn't convey is that it was unbelievably flavorful and tender beef from Neiman Ranch, or that the buns themselves (baked locally (a few doors down) by Eleni Christina bakery, also per the menu) were works of art. Each cut side slightly toasted with a little butter so juices never soaked in, the top of the bun very slightly seasoned (butter/salt/garlic glaze?) -- crazy light and flavorful. Yes, I'm even willing to rave about the bun. The burger was optionally accompanied by garlic fries and aoli for $13 total, $10 with chips instead of fries.

Now, High St. is out of my range. Just can't get that far, so the few times I got to enjoy it before they closed it came to me all the way to the West side (~15-20 minutes) -- and even traveling across the city in styrofoam and parchment paper, it was always absurdly moist and delicious; everything balanced and seasoned perfectly but still bold with just the right amount of heat and bite.

Meach will still be there when it reopens, I hope the Bombay will be back as well. If it does return, I highly recommend any in town give it a go. I would honestly be hard pressed to think of a better burger, anywhere, from my own experiences.

Not coincidentally (because he turned me on to these to begin with), Vincent did a write-up on Marcus for 614 Magazine a little while ago. I'll link it because the guy responsible for what I believe is the best burger in the city is swinging a sword in it and referencing ODB. He has every bit as much character as his food.

The shrimp 'n grits and pork wings (yes, pork wings) were bananas too. But that Bombay burger... You. Just. Don't. Know.

Okay, if you want to talk real burgers, and not just the fast food/ quick service variety, the best burger in Cleveland is at the Flying Fig (conveniently located across the street from Great Lakes Brewing Company). Here's the burger:

GRILLED OHIO BURGER: BACON, CABOT CHEDDAR, MUSTARD AOLI, MELTED ONION, SWEET PICKLE & FRIES

The second best is at Harvest Kitchen in Solon:

Grass Fed Wagyu "KobeStyle" Burger & Hand Cut Fries… bacon, cheddar, housemade pickles, caramelized onions & garlic aioli 16.5 add a farm egg 2

Here's a link to The Rail in Akron (Summit Mall), which is still quick service, but really is a cut above anything else that I've found in that category.

The best burger in Columbus, by far, is at Smith & Wollensky in Easton. You'll need to sit in the bar area to order the burger.

And if you ever make it out to Nebraska for a game, you have to try Runza.
