Favorite Place to get a Burger?

One of the big deals with In-N-Out is that they only serve burgers & fries. They have a hamburger, a cheeseburger, and a double. That's it! On that point alone, In-N-Out wins since you don't have to stand in a line while some assbag looks at the menu.

Now, even if you don't believe they actually use 100% fresh ground beef like they claim, at least their burgers don't taste like they've been stored in a cooler with chicken patties and fish fillets and God knows what else.

almost the same with 5 guys - but they have hotdogs and they make grilled cheese for the kidlets

This place was pretty good: however, the one by the Polaris Mall closed.

I am going to preface this by telling you guys (who don't know already) that I work for Max & Erma's (in the corp office)

With that in mind here are my thoughts.

Fast Food burger- My favorite was Backyard Burger. There used to be one in Carriage Place at Bethel and Sawmill. Very good stuff. Culvers is a close second.

Note that I haven't tried 5 guys yet, but they are opening a store somewhere near Polaris in Columbus.

Quick Service/Casual- I really like Max & Ermas burgers. But I am biased. With that in mind, Thurmans is the best in Columbus. I want to get to Denny's Beer Barrel N Pub (as pictured throughout this thread) but IMO Thurmans makes the best product.

There used to be a pub in grandview that had a really good Stilton burger, but they closed about 3 years ago.

I really don't get the Red Robin love. IMO, Fudruckers is better than Red Robin, and we are better than both.

Now we do have a new burger on the menu that is really good. It is themed on our tortilla soup. It has Chedder and Pepper Jack Cheese with Jalapenos and tortilla strips. It comes with a shotglass sized portion of our tortilla soup. It is really good as a burger, but even better as a chicken sandwich.

Now there are a number of places that are offering Kobe burgers. Why?

You take a really good cut of meat and hide all that goodness with burger stuff. bah.

Have you had a burger at 5 Guys Burgers and Fries? If so, how would you say they compare? I've not had one from In-N-Out, but a buddy of mine just moved out to Sacramento and tried an In-N-Out burger for the first time, wanting to compare with 5 Guys, which we've always agreed is (by far) the best fast food burger joint (and easily one of the best burgers I've ever had period). After several trips to In-N-Out, he claims that while it is good, it simply does not compare to 5 Guys (and it doesn't hurt that 5 Guys also has some of the best fries you'll ever get). Just wondering what others that have experienced both chains have to say about this matter.

One thing that is so great about 5 Guys is that they use fresh (not frozen) ground beef and hand-form their patties, then just use salt and pepper to season. If you walk in to a store, you'll see stacks of fresh potatoes (and a board actually telling you where the potatoes are from for that particular day) and big bins of peanut oil for frying. There are also big barrels full of roasted peanuts for your enjoyment while you wait for your burger. And I hear that some spots are now serving up beer, which makes them the perfect burger place, IMO.

By the way, my favorite 5 Guys burger: Double cheeseburger with lettuce, onion, tomato, jalapenos, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. Magnifique!

I have eaten at 5 Guys Burgers, and must say that a Canyon's Burger Company hamburger was better from my experience. The Canyon's burger seemed more fresh to me, and the pickle slices were really good. I haven't had an In-N-Out burger either so I can't compare. The fries were good too, crinkle style but nice texture. It's was a good burger, they also served beer at the location I went too, and the selection included a local Atlanta brewery, Sweetwater, which I thought was cool.

I'm sure it's been said, but it can be said again...and again. It's Thurman's in Columbus.

But in Dayton...there was a place called Voltzy's. It is amazing!! It's only open from 11am to 2pm, and you have to order ahead. He starts taking orders at about 9:30am. It's just a stand in a parking lot. But trust me...it's the best burgers ever. Some of the stuff is just too crazy, like the 140 oz. burger...but it still tastes good. Everything there does.

Here are some pictures of some of the burgers...

This is Voltzy and his 140oz burger. It's 33 bucks, and if you finish it by yourself in an hour, you get your money back plus some. Voltzy is like the soup nazi of Burgers. He'll razz you, and make fun of you if you order something and don't finish it. He will yell at you..and makes everybody laugh. One of the most outgoing people i've ever met. He really isn't mean...he's a nice guy...he just likes having fun with people.

Best picture I can find of the place...it was while his new place was being built. Before it was just a moblie trailer. Kick ass shit. Best hangover food ever.

This is the double hog. It's 40ozs. It's a bitch to finish, but I've done it. It's great, but the last few bites aren't as enjoyable. But it's so damn good. I usually just go with the hog...

This is the hog. MMMMMMMM...best burger ever.

Here is a picture of Voltzy's with the moblie trailer. It looks so shady, but it's awesome.

Also have the best double patty melts ever.. God now I am so hungry.

Here is a copy of his menu. If you have lived in Dayton and don't know about this place, SHAME ON YOU...

Snap forgot all about that place. Strong to quite strong JXC. He's out of the mobile trailer? It's been a long time since I've been there. Is it still on South Dixie?

Thanks for the feedback. By the way, I see you're in the ATL, jmorbitz. That just so happens to be the location of one of my favorite burger spots, The Vortex (in Little 5 Points).

The Vortex Bar & Grill

Ever hit it up (I know there's one in Midtown, too)? I love Atlanta. Had an interview there not long ago and was really impressed by the city.
