Guitar World's Top 100 Greatest Guitar Solos:

1.
song: Stairway to Heaven
guitarist: Jimmy Page
band: Led Zeppelin
album: Led Zeppelin IV
...
I always thought the live version from the movie was more impressive, because the studio version is obviously dubbed in. The live performance required Page to use the double-neck, and I just am amazed at how seamless it is when he switches from the 12-string to the 6-string for the solo, then switches back to the 12 for the ending, all during the fastest and most difficult portion of the song. If you listen to the CD with no video, you would hardly know there was a switch at all.

It only took 35 posts to mention quite possibly to most famous guitar intros in rock history. The only other guitar intros that could rate with Purple Haze as the most famous would be the Rollings Stones' "I Can't Get No Satisfaction"...

I also love the intros to "Remedy" by the Black Crowes and "Always on the Run" by Kravitz

And, seriously, no one thought to mention Sweet Child???? Did I just miss it??? Please tell me I missed it - I was reading quickly. Gunners should have been more heavily represented on this list... unless there are just too many Metallica fans to let that happen.

Instead of reading my long-winded description above, just watch it here. The solo starts around the 6 minute mark. Enjoy.
