Favorite Guitar Riff/Intro/Whatever

The Toadies' Possum Kingdom and 3 Days by Janes Addiction are my favorite nominees so far. The guitar solo towards the end of 3 Days gives me chills everytime I hear it.

My favorite intro is the four minutes leading into the song Duress by Swervedriver ... followed closely by the bass line at the beginning of One Of These Days by Pink Floyd.

Mr. Crowley- Randy Rhoads....not the intro, but the lead about halfway through the song.
If the Crazy Train intro were as long as Sweet Child O'Mine's it would be more obvious that Randy Rhoads was about 5 times the guitarist Slash will ever be.

Randy Rhodes was 5 times the guitarist that a lot of guys will ever be. Speaking of Randy, and his untimely death, Brad Gillis (NightRanger) filled in on Ozzy's Speak of the Devil tour/album. In my opinion, that's the best stuff he (Brad) has ever done- he just kicks ass all over that album. It's like a clinic on how to be a great metal guitarist.

Best intro:
Close to the Edge - Yes (Steve Howe)

Best riff:
Crossroads - Cream (Eric Clapton)

Best overall guitar performance:
Live version of Stairway to Heaven from the movie The Song Remains the Same - Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page) ....you have to see it to believe it.

Wow - a kindred musical spirit!

Best intro to any song by anyone ever - Yes - "Close to the Edge"

Best studio recording solo - Steve Howe - Yes "Sound Chaser"

Agree that Clapton's best solo is in "Crossroads"

Best live solo - Steve Howe - Yes - the entire "Yessongs" album (3 LPs)

p.s. from "The Song Remains the Same" movie, I prefer the extended version of "Dazed and Confused", but of course "Stairway to Heaven" is awesome!
